Pleasant Howell & Sarah/Sally Barnes are my Great Great Grandparents. They married in Roane County, Tn in 1845. They are listed on the 1850 & 1860 Roane County Census. In 1870, Sarah & children are in Polk County, Tn., without Pleasant. It is assumed he has died by this time. I am looking for ancestors of Dr. Alexander HOWELL born about 1850 in VA or KY and died Feb 19, 1908 in Tama Homestead, SD. I wasted a lot of time looking for ancestors in NC and now have found some information suggesting that he was not from NC but the son of George Washington Howell (1829-1864) and Elizabeth Johnson of Virginia. Brothers and sisters of Alexander were (I think) Emma Howell, (Mrs Wells) Julia Howell b. 3 may 1851 (Mrs William M. Fulkerson) William George, b. 19 May 1856 (m. Lydia Triplett) John Wesley Howell, b. 23 aug 1862 (m. Mary Hammonds) Wise co, VA and Lawrence co, KY seems to ring a bell. I have some reliable information on the descendants of Alexander Howelland his three wives that I can share. But, I do not have much on his ancestors. Alex Howell appears to have moved west after the American Civil War and burned his bridges behind him.
