He had curly, dark hair, and bright, powder-blue eyes. He wasn't very tall, built somewhat like his son Arthur, but looked like his eldest son, Howard. He never lost his hair, but it did turn white Alice Lambert, Raymond's daughter-in-law, recalls: Raymond played piano at a roadhouse that he would take Alice and Howard too. Raymond fed Alice her first taste of strawberries and cream--the strawberries were home grown and the cream was fresh from the cow. It was delicious. Raymond also took care of Alice and Howard's dog, Ginger, when they couldn't keep it. One of Raymond's favorite things to do was to tease Alice with his pet possum but letting it chase her until she jumped on the bed, but the possum would just jump on the bed, too. He took a group swimming at Mill Creek one day, and Alice remembers slipping on a flat stone and cracking her head and had to get stitches. One of the houses that Raymond lived in was so far back in the country you could only drive so far and then had to get out and walk a good ways to get to the house. I'm a novice searcher looking for info about my deceased Grandfather with very little information at hand. His name was Edward Brook Howell (?) and visited Hawaii while in the Navy around 1920. He reportedly died in the Battle of the Coral Sea and was possibly from Virginia. My grandmother, father and me are from Hawaii and don't know much else about my grandfather since my grandmother died early on. Don't have any axes to grind. I'm running into deadends with no birthdate or Social security number and the curiosity is getting intense. Would like to explore my Howell side of the family more and am looking forward to talking to other Howells. Thanks in advance for any info, advice or leads. Philip
