In our book: "The Howells of New Jersey, Virginia, Ohio and Points West", 1994, by Richard Wallace, Robert W. Cameron, Carmen Finley, Heritage Books, Inc., Bowie, MD, we discuss the descendants of Hugh Howell who possibly came from Hunterdon Co., NJ. Thus far, we have been unable to determine his exact birthplace, or his ancestors. He died in Loudoun Co., VA, in 1777. Perhaps if I knew a little more about your Joseph and Sarah Howell (the parents of your Benjamin) I might find a connection to my Hugh Howell. Would you share that information with me? >
Dear Bob, I noted in your letter a reference to your book, "The Howells of New Jersey, Virginia, Ohio and Points West." Could you give the group a little information about the book, namely a little biographical information on some of the individuals. This would help us know if your Howells tie into ours. For instance, I am descended from a Benjamin HOWELL who was born in PN abt 1733, married Maria Elizabeth BEEST, and moved to VA, passing away abt 1799. This HOWELL line apparently came from VA. I would guess that others are interested as well. Brooks M. Wilson
This might be of interest,a real keeper. Jerry Varner

Does anyone out there have the book titled "Roane Co Scholastic Population Lists 1838-1861" or "Roane Co Tax Lists 1833-1840"? If so, would you PLEASE check for Lavinia/Viney and Pleasant Howell? I am trying to determine when my Howell line moved to Roane County. The first mention I have of them is 1845, when Pleasant married Sarah Barns. Lavinia is the mother to Pleasant, father's name unknown at this time. Thank you for ANY help you can provide. I am willing to share any info I have on this family. Connie
