Having the luxury of not paying for each message I am sent, it doesn't bother me to belong to lists that send non-list specific messages---it doesn't thrill me, either, and I tend not to read them. However, I do belong to several lists and all of them have, from time to time, sent messages such as the Mother's Day message. I do not think this is unusual nor offensive, merely a thoughtful gesture. And, yes, I would hate to have the list deteriorate to the point where actual family information is minimal and jokes, birthday wishes, etc become the norm. I don't see that happening. I am very pleased to have someone feel that a Howell list is useful and wish that more of my surnames had lists. I appreciate anyone who has the time to supervise a list. I would hate to have petty reasons determine participation. Knowing that it is expensive for some on the list to receive non-Howell messages should be sufficient to decide that that is not appropriate. Now, to the pertinent reality: I loved reading all of the recent Roll Call posts even through I found no connections. I would suggest this be a quarterly event. Newcomers to the list would then have access to posts from people who may "lurk" but not post regularly, merely waiting to see if they find a match. Nancie Howell Willey
Please excuse this interruption. It will be my only response to the group. Mr Rowan's post below is extremely misleading. I merely suggested to Mr Rowan that he reconsider his frequent postings that *do not pertain to Howell genealogy.* I have received several posts from him that pertain to Mother's Day, several with attachments (which I thought were not allowed on this list) and other non-Howell genealogy postings. Since I live in Japan, I have to pay for each and every piece of email that I download. When non-Howell genealogy email comes through my mailbox from the Howell List, I consider it spam; I did not sign up on the list to receive such items. I am concerned that the Howell list could degrade into something other than a list for Howell genealogy. I am all for Jim Rowan's posts on the list, as long as they pertain to the subject at hand -- Howell genealogy. Topics other than genealogy could be better served in another forum, such as private email. Bulk mailings of unrelated topics are, in my opinion, inappropriate to this forum. Lots of information about Howells, but I am having trouble making any connections. My gggrandparents were Peter R. Cruise and Texas Howell (dau of Paul & Billie Howell) , m 24 May 1877. At that time Texas was reportedly 21 years old. The 1870 Patrick Co., VA Census shows a Paul Howell with wife Elizabeth and children Louisa Jl, Texas, Permelia, and Mary F. living with them in the Dan District. I am presuming Paul and Elizabeth Howell are the parents of Texas Howell, but am confused by the marriage certificate referring to her mother as Billie Howell. Does anyone have any connections to this family? Any clarifications? I'm stuck here. Any help appreciated. Pam Barckholtz

Joy. What dose it mean to be filled with joy? It doesnt necessarily mean that we are laughing out loud or feeling happy all the time. Being filled with joy can be more subtle then that. It can come in the form of contentment with one's own self and accomplishments or satisfaction with life. So let all fell our Mothers hearts with joy to day. This is their day and they desearve to be happy and full of joy. A kiss, A Rose, A Hug, All come with joy. So I am sending A Kiss, A Hug, And A Rose to all the buaitful mothers on my list. Have a joyful mothers Day. Jim.
Hello all My page has been upgraded again..... Would anyone have any links to suggest thanking you Lilian Howell http://www.microtec.net/~ceiligh/genea/myology.htm
I can understand that those paying by the minute might not want to read anything but Howell information and related material on this list. I, for one, enjoy personal notes and comments which might be unrelated. Perhaps a solution would be that posters put CLEAR, DETAILED, subjects on their posts. Those wishing to read them can do so, others can just delete. I agree that Kudos go to our Howell list owner who has done a great job. I have been a member for quite sometime, though rarely post myself due to lack of information.

Who is this HOWELL???? I think he is one of my "desperately seeking" subjects!!!! I would like to know where he is buried, if there were other HOWELL's in this area, and of course <G> who his father is. Do you recognize this HOWELL family? Source: Crittenden Co (Kentucky) Ancestors (quarterly), Vol 7, No 2 page 17 - April-Jun 1998) quoting the Crittenden Press dated Jan 18, 1907 "George W. HOWELL moved from Crittenden County (Kentucky) to near Blodgett, MO (Scott County) about one year ago and reports quite a colony of our people out there. Blodgett, MO is a town of about 2000 people. This last year Mr. HOWELL rented eighty acres of the farm of B. F. MARSHALL and planted twenty to twenty-five acres in melons........Among the Crittenden people there we notice: William WILLIAMS, Ellie WILLIAMS, Bob WILLIAMS, Henry Shufflebarger, David LYNN, Dick MINNER, Bob BARNES, George BARNES, Louis BARNES, George JACOBS, Lynn FORD, Taber YEAKEY, Bill TAYLOR, Josh HAVECRAFT, Bunk CURNEL, Will FRALICK, Geo.
