I have kept my posts to the personal user that posted but now I feel I must say something about professional searchers. If there are such people on the list then they must deal with us poor unfortunate amateurs who are just searching for our roots. Typos are also a way of life for me as I am a hunt and peck person. If you feel people who cannot type and are not professional in their searches should not be on this list then is will be a very small one for sure. I have a delete key which works just fine on my system and I do use it with something I feel is not important to me in my search. I suggest others use it and not criticize other people who may or may not live up to the expectations of someone who is perfect. Sorry I am not one of those.

To Jim Rowan I know we are not allowed attachments on these lists but I for one, thank you for the attachments I have been saving them all there is so much information on these, I do not want to miss any one of them I have been viewing them with the program FMVIEW http://www.wincorner.com/ you may download it as shareware it is a fantastic program your attachments are great if only the spoiled sports on this list would realize it before they ruin our list completely I really appreciate them If you could send it directly to my e-mail ceiligh@microtec.net Thank you so very much, Lily
Jim, keep up the good work. Kristen, get a life. Gary Mosier
Hi All. I have reseved over one Hundred Messages on My rrequest. about my postings and no one has a problem with my postings so I won't need any more responces on this. I was ask to put this to the list and I did. SO I GUESS THAT YOU ALL ARE STUCK WITH ME AS YOUR LIST OWNER. AND AS LONG AS I AM HERE I WILL POST TO THE LIST. Thank you all for your vote of CONFIDENCE in me as your list owner. I am posting this to the list so every subscriber will see it. and I want everyone to keep posting that how we can find our familys. Thank you all. Jim.
HERE IS THAT URL. GOOD LUCK DIGGING ROOTS.
Sorry, I fail to see what is drastically wrong with this list...other than not finding my Howell's! <VBG> What's the complaint? It seems to go as well as most of the other lists I belong to. My delete key works fine if I get something I don't like or need. What postings are in question??? There doesn't seem to be too much inappropriate mail here. I think you're doing a fine job and appreciate your efforts, and would like to take this opportunity to say Thanks. Most voluntary efforts are taken for granted and someone will always complain. This is one of the "nicer" lists I belong to reference flames and small wars. My delete box always has more in it than my folders. There's no such thing as a "perfect" list, really! If it's a cost factor, I understand having lived in areas that charge for everything, however, that's the chance you take and the "price" you pay, so to speak to have access to these lists. Downloading these responses will probably cost some a fortune. This list doesn't seem to be in danger of becoming a war zone or chat line like some of the others. It seems to be on a pretty even keel and subject related. If I can't take some of the lists I simply unsubscribe for a while... So, go forth and find MY Howell's!<G> They were cleaver and hid their tracks fairly well! Does anybody know if Pharmer or Farmer M. Howell was m. 2 times? I found something that makes me think that maybe he was. 1900 Census Floyd Co., KY pg. 208 household 171 Jesse Howell age 63 [m] b. Nov. 1836 KY, Father b. NC, mother b. NC Spicey [maiden name Hall from certificate] age 36 [m], b. Aug. 1863 m. 20, 10 k, 6 live, b. KY Pharmer Howell age 19 [d] b. march 1881 KY Hayes Howell age 17 [s] b. march 1893 KY (typed version states 1893, believe 1883) Jesse Howell age 9 [s] b. may 1891 KY Joseph Howell age 7 [s] b. Aug. 1892 KY Bruce Howell age 4 [s] b. June 1895 KY Mary Emma Howell age 2 [s] b. Jan. 1898 KY My question is why does Pharmer Howell have a [d] after his name? I can understand Jesse Howell and Spicey Howell with m. - probably married and the other kids with [s] probably means single, but if that is the case then the [d] could stand for divorce? I noticed others with [wd] beside them, probably widowed, but then who is the first spouse of Pharmer and when and why did they divorce? == Everyone is related, we just have to find the connections. HELP? Some one sent a URL for a War of 1812 database and I lost it. Help me by sending it one more time. THANKS, Grant
Vina Howell, born 1797-1802, is listed on the 1850 & 1860 Roane County, TN Census...She is living with son, Pleasant Howell..Can't find her in 1870.(Also, Pleasant is no longer around by 1870..thought to have died during the Civil War) Interestingly, in 1870, Pleasant's widow is living in Polk County, Tn. . In 1880, Vina is living with grandaughter, Amanda Howell Buchanan, in Polk County, Tn. Now, I have been told that Vina's father could be Malachi/Malachia Howell... Some court records of Roane County indicate this could be true.. Does anyone out there have information on her? ANYTHING would be appreciated.. Thank You... Connie
Jim, Thank you for all your hard work!!! Hang in there!!!! I agree with all the positive responses you have got!!! It takes a lot of dedication and as far as I am concerned don't go anywhere!!! stay here!!! kathy
Just received information from a cousin that James L. Howell's father was Daniel Howell born 1815 in Clay, NC. This is the way the cousin lists the line of descent: John Howell b. Wales or England Ralph Howell b. Bristol, England Marmaduke Howell b. Sept. 20, 1773 in Robeson, NC Daniel Howell b. 1815 in Clay, NC James L. Howell b. 1847 in Coffee Co., Alabama James was my great-grandfather and I would love to have confirmation that the above lineage is correct, so if any one out there has any information I would love to hear from you. You do wonderful work for the list. I can imagine how much time you put in on it and I want you to know that I appreciate your efforts. I have no problem with the way you do things or what you say. You are one of the few who are willing to go the extra mile, take the time to set up, and maintain this list. You have my thanks and appreciation. -- Don Kunz Norman, OK soonerdon@ibm.net
GOOD MORNING ALL. I thought that you may want to know that we had 273. Postings on our roll--call., Hope that you all found some of your Howells. I thank that a Howell news letter would really help our list. any one want to take on the job. Jim.
Jim, Thanks so much for the time you must spend keeping the list going. I was lucky enough to sign up just a week or so ago in time for your recent roll call and did in fact find a connection this way. I have found no posts to be irritating in the least. Kathy Lee
Jim you can't please everyone, so theres know point in trying. I found nothing wrong with your mothers day list and thought it was rather opropriate. Keep up the good work. Jerry Varner
Jim, keep up the great job you are doing - helping others to find their Howells. I congradulate you!! That one person is looking for the perfect world and it doesn't exist. By sending that one letter of complaint to you, it has caused a huge flow of non-genealogy emails. The very thing the complaint was about. You're doing a good job, Jim. Keep it up. Jack
Dear Jim: I am new to all of this, but I appreciate you taking your time to manage this list. Thanks for taking the impersonal out of what is suppose to be family history. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
Jim, please do not let one disgruntled "customer" effect you. Like "a-holes", everyone has an opinion. With as many people on this internet as there are, there are bound to be some people that no one can please. You should see the flames I have received from people after I posted an ad in a newsgroup. Just pay these people no attention. Maybe pray for them. It is surprising that, considering the large number of weirdos that have computers, that there have not been some obscene postings on here. Although I have not received too much info that has helped me in my own personal search, I have seen some interesting postings and have made some new friends here. When I see a posting that is of interest, I send the poster an e-mail and offer what advice and suggestions I have to that person. I do not post my individual e-mails to the newsgroup as some people do because I dont feel that the communications to that one individual is of any interest to the group as a whole. I, for one, appreciate the work you do with the group. I am sure you will some day feel that it is time that could have been better spent with the family, especially when you receive gripes or innuendos from the strange ones amongst us. Hang in there, turn the other cheek, and if you ignore the few that give you a hard time, THEY will go away. I hope you receive many words of encouragement. I know there are many who appreciate your efforts but never tell you. Regards Ed Howell Folly Island
Some one wanted to why the subscriber wanted me to stop posting. it was because I posted a Mothers Day Wish to the mothers on the list. Jim.
