    3. Hi again, Okay, this one is a real heart-ripper! ;`( But I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you not to send these directly to the list anymore. I closed down the open chat several weeks ago and with it went your "protection" from everyone getting on you for being off-topic. You are certainly welcome add me to your address book to receive other things like this, though. :) I wish you an evening filled with inner-peace and contentment. :) Colleen paparoyinbrea wrote: > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Sunday, October 21, 2001 6:44 PM > Subject: HIGHWAY 109 > > > HIGHWAY 109 > > > >>> > > > > >>> > A drunk man in an Oldsmobile > > > >>> > they said had run the light > > > >>> > that caused the six-car pileup > > > >>> > on 109 that night. > > > >>> > When broken bodies lay about > > > >>> > and blood was everywhere, > > > >>> > the sirens screamed out elegies, > > > >>> > for death was in the air. > > > >>> > > > > >>> > A mother, trapped inside her car, > > > >>> > was heard above the noise; > > > >>> > her plaintive plea near split the air: > > > >>> > "Oh, God, please spare my boys!" > > > >>> > She fought to loose her pinioned hands; > > > >>> > she struggled to get free, > > > >>> > but mangled metal held her fast > > > >>> > in grim captivity. > > > >>> > > > > >>> > Her frightened eyes then focused on where > > > >>> > the back seat once had been, > > > >>> > but all she saw was broken glass and > > > >>> > two children's seats crushed in. > > > >>> > Her twins were nowhere to be seen; > > > >>> > she did not hear them cry, > > > >>> > and then she prayed they'd been thrown free, > > > >>> > "Oh, God, don't let them die!" > > > >>> > > > > >>> > Then firemen came and cut her loose, > > > >>> > but when they searched the back, > > > >>> > they found therein no little boys, > > > >>> > but the seat belts were intact. > > > >>> > They thought the woman had gone mad > > > >>> > and was traveling alone, > > > >>> > but when they turned to question her, > > > >>> > they discovered she was gone. > > > >>> > > > > >>> > Policemen saw her running wild > > > >>> > and screaming above the noise > > > >>> > in beseeching supplication, > > > >>> > "Please help me find my boys! > > > >>> > They're four years old and wear blue shirts; > > > >>> > their jeans are blue to match." > > > >>> > One cop spoke up, "They're in my car, > > > >>> > and they don't have a scratch. > > > >>> > > > > >>> > They said their daddy put them there > > > >>> > and gave them each a cone, > > > >>> > then told them both to wait for Mom > > > >>> > to come and take them home. > > > >>> > I've searched the area high and low, > > > >>> > but I can't find their dad. > > > >>> > He must have fled the scene, > > > >>> > I guess, and that is very bad." > > > >>> > > > > >>> > The mother hugged the twins and said, > > > >>> > while wiping at a tear, > > > >>> > "He could not flee the scene, you see, > > > >>> > for he's been dead a year." > > > >>> > The cop just looked confused and asked, > > > >>> > "Now, how can that be true?" > > > >>> > The boys said, "Mommy, Daddy came > > > >>> > and left a kiss for you. > > > >>> > > > > >>> > He told us not to worry > > > >>> > and that you would be all right, > > > >>> > and then he put us in this car with > > > >>> > the pretty, flashing light. > > > >>> > We wanted him to stay with us, > > > >>> > because we miss him so, > > > >>> > but Mommy, he just hugged us tight > > > >>> > and said he had to go. > > > >>> > > > > >>> > He said someday we'd understand > > > >>> > and told us not to fuss, > > > >>> > and he said to tell you, Mommy, > > > >>> > he's watching over us." > > > >>> > The mother knew without a doubt > > > >>> > that what they spoke was true, > > > >>> > for she recalled their dad's last words, > > > >>> > "I will watch over you." > > > >>> > > > > >>> > The firemen's notes could not explain > > > >>> > the twisted, mangled car, > > > >>> > and how the three of them escaped > > > >>> > without a single scar. > > > >>> > But on the cop's report was scribed, > > > >>> > in print so very fine, > > > >>> > An angel walked the beat tonight > > > >>> > on Highway 109. > > > >>> > > > > >>> > Lark Bennett > > > >>> > Golfport Police Department > > > > > > ==== HOWELL Mailing List ==== > Please do not send messages with attachments, HTML, MIME, or any other > enhanced text to the list.     1. [HOWELL] A 4H FAMILY CHRISTMAS ... EVERYONE PLEASE READ
    2. Colleen Pustola
    3. Hi everyone, It seems that quite a few people missed this message that I sent out on Sunday. So, I'm sending it through again. My apologies if you've already seen it, but if you were receiving the number of "I didn't see it" and "What's going on here" messages that I've been getting, you'd resend it as well. <g> And, just in case you're interested... we already have cousins sending in Christmas presents... If you're ready to send yours, you're certainly welcome to. Trying this one more time... -------- Original Message -------- Subject: A 4H FAMILY CHRISTMAS ... EVERYONE PLEASE READ Date: Sun, 28 Oct 2001 12:48:44 -0700 From: Colleen Pustola <[email protected]> To: [email protected], [email protected],[email protected], [email protected] Hi family, Well, you knew it had to happen .... that I'd come up with yet another idea for all of us. <g> Christmas... it's less than 60 days away now. I love Christmas -- not so much the getting as I do the gift giving. I love surprises and the joy they bring. Yes cousins... this IS leading somewhere. We ARE family, you know, and families do 'family' things together, right? Well, Christmas is coming and that IS a family holiday. Many of us have begun making Christmas lists; this time you can make one with a twist... We're going to spend Christmas together ... as a family ... all of us ... in cyberspace, in a private room off the HRR. Picture this ... A family Christmas tree with family around ... Christmas music ... gifts ... Santa Claus ... We're going to have a Christmas tree. I'll set it up as a page off the HRR hopefully just after Thanksgiving. Gifts will be new material that we all have stored in our home files or found recently after forays into libraries or archives. If each of you will send me one new list/record to be placed "under" the tree, then the family's Christmas will be a resounding success! We'll all benefit from this, have fun doing it, AND add some of the magic back into our own Christmas holidays. Even more, we'll do it as a family. Gifts can be: * a list of names on (for example) a year's tax records * a biography * 3-4 generations of a family * a couple wills * photographs * a few deeds * a county's/country's obituaries for a given period * immigration/emigration records * copies of certificates (deceased only - no living) * etc. ~~ whatever else you'd like to give the family for Christmas provided there is no data on living persons included The list does NOT have to be limited to what I've given above; those were just ideas/ suggestions. The point of this is to give a gift to the family and have fun doing it. ***IMPORTANT*** ~ PLEASE BE SURE TO READ ALL THREE *** *** Your gifts will need to be set up as close to online-ready as you're able to do; if you don't know how, don't worry ~ your gifts are still welcomed. Text files are fine, and so are RDF files. Label your message as CHRISTMAS GIFT so I won't miss it in the middle of all the roll calls and I'll know you have that particular message designated as a gift. *** Questions? Just send an email to me <[email protected]>. Make your subject line as RE: CHRISTMAS PRESENTS. *** Your gifts should be submitted DIRECTLY TO ME at <[email protected]> ~ NOT ON THE LIST. (We need to be good "secret-keepers," don't you know! :) ) Deadline for submissions is November 30th as I'll need time to "wrap" everything. So, cousins... what dusty, musty records do you have hidden away that you'd like to "wrap up" and put under our first family tree to be opened on Christmas day? What HOWELL[S]/HOWLE, or other variant spelling gift would you like to give to the family for Christmas? I'm totally excited about our first family holidays together! Are you? I sit here and imagine the surprise on your faces as you read about this, then the smiles, then the flicker of interest and excitement -- the spirit of Christmas coming alive. . .yes, this will be a magical time once again for all of us. I hope each of you will find at least one special gift to give at this, our first Christmas together. It can be an exciting and magical season for all of us ... looking once again at the holidays through child-like eyes. WELL... WHADA'YA THINK??? Are you all ready to feel like little kids again? :-D Colleen

    3. Adelene. Have seen a gedcom on Rootsweb concerning the Howell line from Chester Co Pa. Original immigrants three brothers. Francis Howell is one of them. I bet your Rebecca Howell is from that group. I think I saw a Website devoted to the Pa. Howell line also. I have not connected to these Howells from Pa but it was stated that from the 1600's they spread to Va and other southern states. I was told by another cousin that Chester Co Pa was a point of entry and debarking due to the ocean and river meeting there. Haven't done my geography on it. Any cousins on the list up on Chester Co Pa geography?May be that some of us Howells from Virginia came from this stock of Pa Howells but have not researched it enough to know. My HOWELLs started in the Bedford/Franklin area of VA, then went to Floyd county KY (by 1810) and Nelson (near Louisville) KY, then on to Monroe Co MO by 1837. I finally just got a copy of my ggg-gf Samuel HOWELL's 1842 will, wherein he mentions selling his Nelson Co KY farm to a James Duncan in 1836 (when Samuel and family headed for Missouri.) 3. My family lore was that 5 or 6 of one family came togeather to the new land from England. Seems it was a ship called the Purple Cow...but surely that was mistaken. I have never been able to trace my line further back than Mathew HOWELL m. to Keiza who was in the King's Orange Rangers for 7 years as a sergeant. He went to Nova Scotia after the Am Rev and then Upper Canada. His line has been traced then to Southern OH and other parts. Wonder if this is a connection to my line? Time will tell I guess. Sheila TX Three Howell brothers and three sisters left their ancestral home in Lancillo, Caemarthen, Wales, bound for the New World, by sailing vessel, embarking from Gravesend, England in the year 1684. In March, 1685, they debarked at Norfolk, on the east coast of North America. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

Just like at your inlife-home after you've had Christmas, the gifts will be put away in _our_ home ~ the Howell Research Room. They'll be there for everyone in the world to see and hopefully, connect to you through. Yes, you'll still be given credit for your work and a email hyperlink ~ just like what's at the HRR now. I take absolutely nothing from you. Q: You want us to send these "presents" to the list, or what? A: No, send them directly to me at <[email protected]>. That way, only you and I will know what you're giving the family ~ until Christmas morning US MST, that is. :) Q: How many gifts do you want from us? A: Just one is all you need to send me if you'd like to participate. Q: Can we contribute more than one? A: You sure can! How "Christmas-ey" do you feel? :) You can give the family as many presents as you'd like. Q: You're already so busy! Why are you doing this? A: That's EASY!... it's because you're all WORTH IT! :) Q: I only just started doing research. I don't have much but I want to do something... A: Well, do you have pictures of your early ancestors? Do you have vital certificates from them (birth, death, marriage, military, etc.)? You can certainly use those. The idea here is to keep in mind what you have isn't necessarily what _I_ have or what "cousin Howell" has. We may all shop at the same store, but we're all likely to select different gifts. If duplicate gifts should happen to come in, the cousin sending the gift in first gets the credit. You all just have NO idea how excited you're gonna get, but I do! heh heh heh You're all going to have such a fun Christmas season and I'm awfully excited to bring this to each of you ~ I really am. :) If you still have questions, please ask. Thomas's brother Stephen lived in Floyd Co for a very short time before moving off to Indiana. Rebecca Howell, Thomas's sister married James Cundiff. Bedford. Well ,James Cundiff had a brother, George Cundiff that married a Beard women. Don't know her first name nor much about her and the Cundiff's. The Howell's of Floyd Co were the starting off place for my Greats Judith Howell and her husband Sherrod Starkey in 1830's long enough to have a child and then settle in Greenup Co Ky, with other Howell cousins. Just some info I thought I would pass along.

    2. Jeannine -- Running thru some old emails, I re-read yours (below) and, altho I don't establish direct family connections (I'm still looking for parents and siblings of my Samuel Howell), some of the names you mention intrigue me. My HOWELLs started in the Bedford/Franklin area of VA, then went to Floyd county KY (by 1810) and Nelson (near Louisville) KY, then on to Monroe Co MO by 1837. I finally just got a copy of my ggg-gf Samuel HOWELL's 1842 will, wherein he mentions selling his Nelson Co KY farm to a James Duncan in 1836 (when Samuel and family headed for Missouri.) One of Samuel's daughters, Mary Wyatt HOWELL (my gg-gm), married Ferdinand BEARD, son of Robert M. BEARD and Nancy C. WEBB. Nancy Webb Beard's will is witnessed by Robert Wright and Larkin Wright. Maybe I'm grasping at straws here, but when you're up against a brick wall, you tend to pursue any possible lead. -- Candi Beard Nation ------------------ Subj: [HOWELL] Howell Fam of Jefferson Co.KY.
