In those days, artificial insemination was totally unknown, and on the other side of the "pond" would make it ridiculous. If you have access to the book on the Edward howell family written by David Faris, you will also see that he does not mention Hugh or any of the known descendants of Sampson. David Faris updated the book written many hears ago by Emma Howell Ross, another of Edward's descendants. The pirate story also doesn't really hold water, since Hugh would have been almost 40 when Kidd turned to piracy in 1695. Add to that the fact that no amount of trying has been able to locate, for certain, the supposed brother or brothers. I have little information on the family you're working on after they left NJ, but will try to pass on to you what I do have. This will be a cintinuing story, I'm afraid; it's one of my really busy days. 3. Many thanks, Carol; you've added to the inforamtion I have on this line. Your son-0in-law and I come from the same line, since Levi and Mary Green Howell are also my ancestors. The Howell book is one janel Howell and I wrote with the help of a lot of our cousins about 3 years ago. You can buy it from Heritage Books, Inc. in Bowie MD for about $15.00 right now. It is on a clearance table there. they published it for us. If you have any of the genealogy magazines you can find their address in one of them, or you can go to heritagebooks.com on the Internet. The book # is 1459, the title is "The Descendants of Hugh Howell" by Janel Howell and Jeannette Phethean. More later, I just got company. 3. Lewis: The Thomas Howell Cemetery is on Hwy 94 2 or 3 miles off Hwy 40/64. I believe the one across from a school is the Francis Howell Cemetery. That school is in the Francis Howell School District. The time I stopped by and took pictures the cemetery was clean. I'm sorry I don't know any other details. At least one of the Howell monuments had a date of 1971. I sent the pictures to Colleen today so you should be able to view them on the Howell Home pages in the near future. If you have an interest in someone you believe is buried in one of these cemeteries I will be happy to go take a look and if successful I'll take a picture. We had weather in the 60's today and I would love an excuse to go for a drive. Mary D Get more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com

    3. Hi family, I just came from the Ancient Faces and Dead Fred sites, and saw that we have Howell family pictures there. I didn't bother to look up the cousins names who submitted the pictures, but wondered if any of you might have submitted your family treasures to the sites. If so, won't you please consider displaying your pictures at our home also? And more, if you submit (for instance) a genealogy or bio with your ancestor's name in it, not only will you get a page for that works, but also for the picture. Have a look at the HRR; several of the pictures on the ancestral wall are also linked to bios AND a page with their larger pictures. It's a 2 for 1 deal! :) Our traffic has increased quite a bit since we moved to our own domain and the more our name spreads on the Web, the more inline family will be visiting us. Between the photo sites and our home, your chances of someone finding you are significant enhanced. Just my thoughts.... I wish you all a MAGNIFICENT Monday! :) Colleen

    2. BRIAN HOWELL
    3. Dear Colleen, Thanks for your reply. I actually received news of the Howell site from an American cousin who is researching our American descendants from the Lawrence and allied familes' Irish connections. She thought I might be interested in the Howell family for our Australian connections. Without being sure of the protocols, I'd like to supply the following information about my husband's Brian's family: The first noted Australian ancestor is: William Howell Born about 1884, village of Long Melford, Suffolk, England. Transported for life to Australia in 1831 for Housebreaking. Served period of indenture at Clear Creek Station, El Dorado, Northeast Victoria( this hamlet was the scene of a huge gold discovery sometime in the middle 19th century.) William went to Melbourne following finishing his servitude. Married: Miss Eliza Henry, from Armagh, Ireland. Died: 1904. Buried Buckland Valley, North East Victoria, Australia. Occupation: Miner Son: Charles Alexander Howell. Born about 1865, Buckland Valley. Married: Rachel Howard. Born about 1869, Harrietville. Miner, Harrietville; moved to Stanley, Vic. and then Myrtleford by 1922. Died: Myrtleford, about 1957. Occupation: Miner, then Farmer. Son: James Edward Howell. Born 1908, Harrietville, Vic. Married: Alice Moore 1937. Died: Myrtleford, Vic., 1994. Occupation: Farmer. Son: Brian Charles Howell. Born 1941, Wangaratta, Vic Occupation: Farmer/Mill Worker Married: Anne Collins 1979. Son: David James Howell. Born 1982, Myrtleford, Vic. Maybe someone out there may have some information leading to William Howell and our Australian branch. Thanking you all for any help, and welcoming all cousins to our Australia family.
