    1. [HOWELL] Howell Roll Call - Louis Howell (SC ?) to MS 1700's
    2. Louis Howell is my brick wall. He as born probably in mid-1700's. Wife was Mary Blailock. She is buried in Old Gum Springs Cemetery, Braxton, MS. Louis may be buried next to her as there is a space between her grave site and the next plot. He was the father of Samuel Howell, born 1792 in SC. He married an Elizabeth sometime between 1830 and 1850. He died before 1860 in Union Parish, Louisiana. Samuel was the father of Richmond C. Howell, born June 30, 1822 in Pike County MS and died June 23, 1864 in Union Parish LA. He was married to Mary Ann "Polly" Hammock on May 22, 1862 in Union Parish LA. Richmond was the father of Thomas Jefferson Howell (only child of this marriage) born March 27, 1863 in Union Parish Louisiana. He died December 3, 1921 in Union Parish LA. Does anyone have this elusive Louis in their database? Thanks for any help. Ruth Stout

Swinfield D. came to Yancey Co, NC sometime in the early 1800s, Swinfield F. was born there in 1860. He married Margaret Price, of Alexandria, VA -- we cannot find marriage records, so we do not know when or where the marriage took place. He graduated from Chicago Medical School (now Northwestern University), and was licensed to practice in NC in 1891. Because of the missing census from 1880, we do not know where he was at that time. If anyone has any info on the Yancey County Howells and progenitors -- we think the first immigrant is William, from County Antrim, Ireland -- help would be appreciated. Jennie Gaybrella b Aug 14 1898 Arthur E. b 1899 NOTE: Abner Brown Howell is listed as Alner Howell on the 1880 Anderson co.SC census at: www.familysearch.org From a third source Gay I think we are onto the same family here. When Ishowed the names of the children listed here my Mother instantly recognized the names of several of the children. We were unsure about the real name of Lucy and the Lucyniah rang a bell with her. Also the Cindy or Cinderella was a familiar name she had heard her grandmother talk about. She definitely remembered a Jackson Howell. She never really met very many of these people only heard her grandmother talk about them as her brothers and sisters. Her grandmother was Vashti Elizabeth Howell, and she was born July 19,1875 and died February 23, 1953. She is buried at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Greenville, SC. On the list you sent Robert Howell is listed as the husband of Edith (Edy) Snipes. This matches what we have; we had a Robert Paxton Howell married to Edith Snipes and the children seem to match to the best of my mother's recollection. Vashti was a twin but the other girl died shortly after birth. The two girls were originally named Mary and Martha. Mary died and Martha's name was changed to Vashti Elizabeth. It was told to my mother by Vashti that either Edith Snipes or her mother had Cherokee roots but I have not been able to track any of that down. Like I said before, Vashti was not talkative about her history. My mother was able to get from her that she had been married but the man left her, and her brothers helped her get a divorce. Vashti had two girls one was my Grandmother, Ethel Irene Howell Queen and the other was Lessie Laura Howell (never married). We have wondered if Vashti was married twice because of the age difference between the two and also the fact that they really do not look at all alike. Lessie was born in 1896 and Ethel was born in1908 (12 yrs.). And this information stating: buried in Roberts Presbyterian Church Cemetery;Anderson,SC. Marie DAVIS HOWELL, b. 30 May 1914; Ralph Gordon HOWELL, b. 22 Apr 1914, d. 17 Jun 1981; Viola YON HOWELL, b. 24 May 1876, d. 17 Nov 1942; Robert Bert HOWELL,b. 31 Jan 1872, d. 21 Nov 1946.
