If you have Windows, it should be at: Start: Programs: Accessories: Systems Tools: Character Map... Put your cursor on a symbol and click and it will enlatge it for you, so you can see it... 3. I'm seeking information of Thomas (John?) Howell of Powell Co. (Slade). His son (b. abt 1843) is my great grandfather. I understand that records were burned so not sure where to turn. I have checked the cemeteries and found nothing. No one in our line knows anything about Thomas. John Howell located to Forest Co. Wisconsin sometime in the 1920's and homesteaded on a Lake (named Howell Lake). John married Nancy Combs, daughter of Wilson Combs who served in the 13th Ky Cav. Any information, or direction, would be much appreciated. Thanks. Wesley Howell --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! SiteBuilder - Free, easy-to-use web site design software

    2. I missed roll call last month because I had unsubscribed for vacation. But after 9 years of searching for Howell's, I have hit pay dirt because of our Howell Research Room! I received an email a few days ago from relatives I didn't know.I have William Fletcher Howell and they had Roena Edward Howell, sister to William. Her family found me because I had put information on the Research Room about James Edward Howell and his family. So if you haven't put anything out there about your family, you might consider it. THANK YOU COLLEEN and everyone who made the Research Room possible!!! Jackie Howell

Adams County, Illinois. He died probably about 1865, and was apparently unmarried. His will named these heirs" all siblings, I think: Lewis B. HOWELL, Cornelia M, wife of George HUME, Thomas B. HOWELL, Orlando HOWELL, Ezra HOWELL and Sarah J. wife of Theodore H. Broomfield. I'll be happy to send a copy of the will to anyone who thinks he has a connection. 3. I don't have any information to give...but I have a great story. Last year on one of the challenges, I posted some information that someone had given my father-in-law in a letter in 1961. Someone on the list claimed the information and was thrilled about it. And I of course was glad to help someone out. I then attempted to throw the ragged letter away several times, but something kept nagging me to just hold on to it for a little longer. So I did. Well...guess what...about 3 months ago, I rammed through that brick wall of mine and found the name of the father I was looking for on my Howell line in the year 1780. And as I came down the decendency road...those names that I had found the owner to a year ago just happened to belong in our family line too! I guess that is reason never to throw out snipets of information, you never know if they will be your own! Good Luck to all. Debbie in Austin TX There are some things you are going to try that aren't going to work, and when that happens, you just have to dust yourself off and move on to other things! --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? 2. Colleen Pustola
    3. Hi everyone, July's roll call brought out a lot of information that, hopefully, generated a bingo or two. This month though, IS NOT about your individual lines... For as many people in our ancestries as we've found during our research, there are many, many more that we've happened across that don't belong in our own individual families. This month's challenge is about those miscellaneous people that are sitting in a shoebox under the bed, stuffed in a catch-all binder on a dusty shelf, molding in a desk drawer with the thought that one day you just might connect with them, but not yet. Great information for someone... ...just not not you. The challenge: Post information about our surname lines that are NOT yours. Even if all you have is an obit or a single census extraction, that will count. The object is that the line isn't yours. Give as complete information about the person/family as you can ~ particularly regarding place and years. Variant spellings are always welcomed. Post your data directly to the list, please. I'm only one person when, in fact, you want everyone to see it. Colleen P.S. If you scored a bingo on last month's roll call, won't you please share it with the rest of us? We'd love to share in your happiness at making THE connection.
