    1. NH: Adonijah, Aaron and Sally Howe
    2. David G. White
    3. I am looking for the parents of Sally Howe who married Otis H. Knight. I was in Boston yesterday and spent two hours in the library of the New England Historic and Genealogical Society where I found some new leads. However, I ran out of time before I could pursue them thoroughly. I hope someone on the Howe list can help. According to information from an old Knight family (my wife's family) bible: 1) Sally Howe was born March 15, 1797; 2) she married Otis H. Knight on Nov. 29, 1827; 3) Otis H. Knight was born Dec. 26, 1800. Originally that's all we knew. No locations were given. Later, I discovered in "The History of North Brookfield (Mass.)" by Temple, J. H. and Adams, Charles, (Published by the Town of North Brookfield, 1887), that the children of Otis and Sally were all born in Cambridge, Vermont. Their children were: Orvilla Knight (that is correct Orvilla, not Orville, but he is male!), b. Feb. 3 or 4, 1831; Edmund Curtis Knight, b. March 18, 1835; and Abbie C. Knight born April 3, 1839. Orvilla and Edmund settled in North Brookfield, Mass. and died there. Unfortunately, the town records of Cambridge, VT had no birth records for these three children. In fact, the only town record I found that Otis and Sally they were in Cambridge at all was a death certificate for their daughter Abbie in 1861 at the age of 22. My next lead came from the US Census of 1840 and 1850. They show Otis and Sally living in Cambridge, VT with their three children and they list Otis and Sally as both having been born in New Hampshire (but no town given). This was exciting! I finally had a lead on their origins! New Hampshire! Yesterday, I took the next step. Searching in NEHGS's mircrofilm library, I found that Otis H. Knight paid taxes in Washington, NH for three years only: 1825, 1826 and 1827. Since the Knight family bible says he and Sally married in 1827, and their first child was born in Cambridge, VT in 1831, it seems reasonable to assume they moved to Cambridge shortly after their marriage which is why Otis is not listed in the Washington, NH tax rolls for 1828. I did not find a marriage record for Otis and Sally, nor did I find a birth record for any Otis Knight anywhere in NH during this time period. Also, there were no other Knights listed in Washington tax rolls, so I am guessing he was not born there. Now, as to Sally, I found birth records for several Sally Howes in NH during this time. Two of them seem to have the most potential. One lists Sally Colby Howe, born in New Boston, NH on February 7, 1797, daughter of Aaron and Betsy Howe. This is the right year, but wrong date. The second is for Sally Howe, born in Jaffrey, NH on March 15, 1791 to Adonijah and Sarah Howe. This is the right date, but wrong year. Two things are important to note: first, the 1850 census lists Sally as having been 52 years old at the time of the census which tends to confirm her birth year as given in the family bible as 1797. Second, the microfilm from which I obtained these two Sally Howe birth records was of transcriptions (made in 1905) from the original town records, not the original records themselves. Thus my current theory is that this second Sally Howe is the correct one and that the birth year of 1791 indicated in the microfilm is a transcription error made by the transcriber in 1905. A seven could be easy to mistake for a one. I have no proof of this theory, but the coindence of the March 15th date in the family bible is hard for me to ignore. So, my questions to the Howe list are: Does anyone have information on either Aaron and Betsy Howe of New Boston, NH or Adonijah and Sarah Howe of Jaffrey, NH? Does anyone know where either of these Howe men were born? Their ancestry? Copies or abstracts of their wills? The maiden names of their wives? Any other children with their birth dates? Any other info which could help me confirm and reject either of these as my Sally Howe's parents? Any help is much appreciated. Best Wishes, David G. White Burlington, VT whiteknight@adelphia.net

    3. I am looking for someone with info on a Benjamin and Sarah Stewart Howe. Benjamin was born in Massachusetts, and died between 1813-1814 in Saratoga County, New York, as he died when his son was about one and a half years old.I believe Benjamin and Sarah were married in Saratoga County, New York in 1811, There son, Estes Howe was born in Saratoga County, New York in May 1812. Estes is the only son (child) that I know about. Estes married Susan Whaley in February 1836 in Tompkins County, New York. Estes and Susan moved to Indiana in 1836, and remained there the rest of their lives. Lorelle Howe

    1. HOWE buried along Hood Canal in Wash. State
    2. Oliver Howe
    3. I discovered an old cemetery along an old rural road leading South from the west end of the Hood Canal Floating Bridge... the little road heads towards the old ferry landing at South Point. Across the road from the canal is a very neglected cemetery on the side of the hill with at least one HOWE family buried there. From the thombstones I jotted down the following: Samuel U. Howe 1869 - 1974 Bertha A. 1871 - 1927 [I think Samuel's wife, but didn't include this in my note. Cecil L. Howe US Marines, WW I; Aug. 17, 1898 - Aug. 9, 1979 Hubert "Speed" Howe 1908- 1983 These graves were all grouped togeather, as I recall, but just found notes that I had made over ten years ago. Also, in the same location was the grave of a Vivian M. [Thompson, I think]... 1913 - 1985. My reason for posting is two-fold. Wondering if anyone knows this Howe family... and also thought, just maybe, someone is looking for them. My own HOWE family migrated from New Youk State to this same general area in 1900... Yet I don't know of this family. Oliver Howe ohowe@willapabay.org

    3. Hello Marylou, I just perked up my ears at your last posting. Do you have much on the Robert Dalzell No. 7 in the 5th generation? I have a single ancestor Permelia Dalzell. Born in 1824. Married Charles Ruggs, a physician, in 1846 Nicholas County, KY and shortly thereafter moved to Indiana, she died there in 1868. On the 1840 census of Nicholas County, Robert Dalzell age 40-50 is the only Dalzell with a daughter listed in the correct category to be Permelia. I have suspected him to be the father. The time and place are correct, but I have no proof. If I am correct, she would be an older sister of your Samuel H. and we will be "cuzzins." Can we put our heads together on this one? Nancy

    1. Daniel HOWE
    2. Michele Colson
    3. Hi, I have a problem with my HOWE line. I have Daniel HOWE b. 1676/77 Wallingford, CT , son of Nathaniel HOWE & Elizabeth CURTIS as having three wives: Ann Bronson, Sarah, & Margery Andrews. He married Margery 1705, the same year he died. The problem is that I also show these 3 women being married to his son, Daniel Waitstill HOWE. If Daniel (1676-1705) was truly married to Margery Andrews in 1705 & he died in 1705, then she cannot be the mother of my ancestor, Elizabeth HOWE who married Thomas GILBERT. Or, if she was married to the son Daniel, it also disproves my ANDREWS line. Can anyone offer something that would help clear up this situation? Thanks, Michele Colson colso001@coyote.csusm.edu
