House, of Walpack, met with an accident , while handling a powder flask, that came near proving fatal. The child, which was left in the room alone for a few minutes while its mother was hanging up her day's washing, proceeded to amuse itself and finally took down her father's powder flask, containing between a quarter and a half pound of powder . The child then proceeded to the stove with the flask and while engaged in pouring some of the powder out into her hand, dropped the flask upon the stove. The powder exploded with a loud report, badly injuring the child and setting fire to her dress and hair. She had the presence of mind to run to a tub of water nearby and extinguished the flames before the mother arrived on the scene. The front of her dress was entirely burnt off and a portion of her hair. At last advices she was rapidly recovering." (no relation to me, just posting)
