Continued: But I will tell you what a lawyer said once to me in Baltimore. "When I get ready to go at that Antietam, I will have it if I have to retain every lawyer in Maryland". I will not name the man, but I think you know that man. For his services, as our lawyer without any part of the land or estate of Andrew House, let it be great or small, I want to know how much will be expected to pay Anderson? That is the whole amount in total, with one half of the estate at Antietam, gives to him as compensation for his services. Let lawyer Anderson say, and then we will know whether we can raise the money or not. You can answer me as soon as you see him and he can do the same. I think the compromise plan will be the best, he will sooner find out how things are and see the land. He had better not commence that until he has all the papers with him and then commence at Harper's Ferry on the north side of the Potomac River and proceed up to Antietam Creek, then go over to Pleasant Valley and down the valley to Wenston, then up the river to Sandy Nook and back to Harper's Ferry. I have not had a letter yet from Downs in answer to the one I sent him. Have you heard from any of the heirs? Brother JOSEPH BARNES ! told me that JOSEPH HOUSE's heirs have some papers about Antietam. You had better find out all you can about the matter before you answer me. P.S> If there is any money required, please let me know as soon as convenient and I will send it to you. I think I can locate some of the claiments in MO. Leavenworth Kansas is my home although I am staying with friends in MO. Yours, signed M. S. C.
