(according to the Ulster County, NY census of 1840). He married Julia Haines in 1834, she was born in NY on Jan.14, 1817. They lived in Esopus and resided at Rokeby Farm - of the Astor - Chanler Family. Children included Henry J. b.1840, Charles E. b.1846, Helen J. b.1847, Eliza b. 1851, George b. 1854, Julia b. 1836 (?), and Sarah b. 1839 (?). All children were born near Esopus, NY. I believe that Josiah may be a son of Jeremiah and Ruth (Purple) House. In the 1820 census of Hartford County, Glastonbury, Conn. pg.326, a male child is shown that would be the correct age for Josiah. No genealogies record this child. Could it be Josiah?
