The Martin House I am familiar with is listed in the 1870 Rowan County, N.C. census along with his brothers, and his mother Keziah. This is in the Providence Township. Martin House is among the Rowan County marriage bonds. Martin House, son of Joel and Keziah House, married to Mary Heilig, daughter of Eliza Heilig of Arkansas. Their children Walter Heilig, Lawney House Johnson, Lillian House. Bear in mind Walter was born in the 1880s as was Lawney; Lillian was born about 1890s or early 1900. Martin House and Mary Heilig were married on December 1888. As far as being Native American, I suspect Mary Heilig may have been, of what nation I am not sure. However, Martin's brother John, my grandfather, married Martha Crowell, in 1885; her mother was Cherokee, a woman named Rachel. Check these out and see what you come up with. Are you in the Maryland Virginia Washington D.C. area? At night email me on EvansTurnstone@aol.com
