It could be your phone line has a bad connect. I live in area with underground phone cables and they have been flooded a few times. It was about to drive me crazy working on computer until I found out the phone lines get crossovers every time weather is wet. The connect speed drops from about 44,000 to 50,000 which is normal for a 56K modem down to about 9600 and then they disconnect due to poor line quality. I have to call phone company after every rain and they come out and clear their lines, then next rain, the same problem again. Earl D. House
