Posted on: House Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/House/134 Surname: HOUSE ------------------------- Two points against this green crossed shield as the House coat of arms. It does not say in the message if it belongs to a HOUSE with ancestral roots back to Anglo Saxon or roots back to French origin. I was told that the Anglo Saxon coat of arms had unicorns on it. And whether Anglo Saxon or French the colors on the coat of arms were silver and red. Then of course there is the whole argument whether we descendants have a "right" to claim those coats of arms since they were designed for a specific aristocratic noble in our family tree and not ourselves. This could be why the post by Lyn does not match to what I have been told/ ... the shield and crest she displayed were for a noble in her own family branches she researched. She just thought she would share it with us not knowing that there could be multiply coats of arms (and mottos) assigned to any surname. If that is the case then she could have an authentic coat.
