    1. House, early to mid 1800's, KY and Indiana
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/SFk.2ACIB/1342 Message Board Post: Seeking more information on family of Mary Teresa House, b. 2/26/1849 KY and married 9/26/1867 in Jackson County (KY?) to Melville Hester Davis or Melville Hesther Davis, b. 10/24/1842 Ky, son of Robert L Davis (b. ca. 1818, Ky) and Sarah Meranda (b. ca. 1820). Mary Teresa House Davis and Melville Hester Davis lived in Scott County, Indiana after their marriage, had 11 children also in Scott Co, In, and died and were buried in Scott Co, IN. The names of their eleven children were (not chronologically) Julian Leonidas (b. 3 /5 /1877), Rosella (b.1868), Robert D., William L., Anna Belle, Leroy Augustus (= Roy August), Pearl, John, Clifford, Tip, and Eskham Davis. I understand that Mary Teresa House Davis probably had red hair and may have had any or all of the following ethnic ancestry: Spanish (privateer in early 1800's out of New Orleans, Louisiana delta area), Irish, and/ or Jewish. (Her husband Melville Hester Davis was of Jewish ancestry.) Mary Teresa House probably had a brother named William House who was still living in the 1920's, at least, as recalled by my uncle (now in his 90's), who remembers Uncle Bill and Aunt Did House at a family reunion in Scott County, Indiana in the 1920's. It is probable that her mother had a Spanish name--maybe Maria and that her father was a man named House, who may have been Jewish in heritage, if not in faith, and who would have lived in Kentucky in 1849. The man named House could have also been of German and/ or Irish heritage. Do any of these names or tidbits of information ring a bell with anyone out there? If so, please respond. Thank you. Eve

Barnes. Information listed for him at the Fayette County Vital Records, 1750-1890 lists him as a Baptist Minister serving the 5th NY Vol. Infantry. I believe I am a descendent of the David Barnes who married Sarah House Proctor. I have not traced my family that far yet, but my great-grandfather was David Barnes born 19 Dec 1865 in Connellsville and his father was named David Barnes, also. So my chances look good, but no hard proof yet.

Surnames: SHARP, HOUSE, MOSES Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SFk.2ACIB/1333.1.1 Message Board Post: Hannah E. HOUSE m. (1) Michael MOSES, and (2) Theodore SHARP. In both marriages, she became a widow. The marriage to Theodore SHARP was her final marriage. She had four children from each marriage. The latter marriage was in Detroit, Michigan; and they settled in Waterford, Norfolk County, Ontario, Canada. They are buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Waterford. The HOUSE/HOUS name is descended from The Palatinate (1670) via The Mohawk Valley of the American Colonies. The SHARP family is currently being researched, and it appears to be Loyalist as well, found in New Brunswick, and descending from Saxony.
