His parents were John HOUSE & Bethia CROCKER. William was born 7 April 1839 at Snelling, Turnerspuddle, Dorset. 1881 Census has him as a Carpenter in Ansty Pleck & birthplace as Piddlehinton. 1901 Census has him as Blacksmith & Wheelwright in Hilton & birthplace down as Morton, Dorset. William married 3 times: Harriet ROLLS, Emma UNKNOWN (bef.1901 Census), & Clara E. RUSSELL (1922). He died 3 June 1924. I've been working on this family this week, but most of the info. is in the gedcom & rtf report I sent to you at the beginning of May. I have several sightings for people at Pallington/Paddington/Pollington, Dorset, mostly for William's children. Multi-map has none of these in Dorset, so any help as to where they are would be gratefully received. I'm going down to Dorchester later this month, so will enquire there. regards, Andrew

James W. Howse kindly mailed me his collection of photocopied of pages from an untitled manuscript or book on various Howze families, which did not include his ancestors. Patsy (Hudson) Howze is the one of several authors who knew the most about my wife's ancestors William and Mary Howze, of Wayne Co., MS. Patsy appears to be a descendant of William's brother, James Howze, who lived near William in 1810 Darlington Co., SC and in 1820 Wayne Co. She notes William's family was in 1830 Perry Co., MS, but states "From this time on, nothing is known of his descendants". Even though she didn't know of William & Mary Howze's daughter, Rebecca Caroline Howze (my wife's ancestor), Patsy states that William's wife was Mary Wilds and that both were from Darlington Dist., SC. She notes that the will of Mary Wilds' widowed mother (Mrs. Mary Wilds) was recorded in Darlington Co., SC, on 7 Sep 1812. The will names daughters Mary Howze, Rebecca DuBose, & Elizabeth DuBose, grandson Samuel DeWitt Wilds (son of Samuel Wilds) and granddaughter Caroline Wilds. Executors of the will were sons-in-law Elias DuBose, Jesse DuBose, and William Howze. Patsy also states on page 76 that Mary Wild's brother Samuel Wilds deeded Wm. Howze and Mary Howze 30 acres of land on 22 Feb 1809 - possibly a wedding gift. I have their oldest child, a daughter, b. about 1810 based on the 1820 Wayne Co. and 1830 Perry Co. census. Rebecca Caroline Howze, b. 27 Mar 1828 in Augusta, Perry Co., MS, was the youngest of their 8 children, the other 6 being sons. [I have read elsewh! ere that one of those sons was Dr. Horace Lafayette Howze b. 20 May 1824 in Winchester, Wayne Co., MS.] Patsy also names William & James Howze's other brothers Thomas, Samuel and John, all of South Carolina. She speculates that it is "extremely possible" that these were the sons of Thomas Howze of Charleston, SC, who died prior to 1771. However, the 1810 Darlington Co., SC, census data have William as born 1775-1784, and James born before 1775. I see handwritten notes throughout this copy of the book, one of which indicates Patsy was Mrs. William Douglass of Tampa, FL, at the time of the books' writing. I hope to be able to locate her or a descendant with her records. Many pages from the book, including its title, author(s) date, and publisher, are missing. He sent a fair number of letters to the Supt. at West Point in the early 1800's--and may have been associated with Gen. James Wilkinson's intrigues..but the verdict is still out there. Does anyone have information on the birth of Joseph House, allegedly b. 1732. Son of David and Silence (French) House? His son (I'm told) was also Joseph House, b. 1757. Joseph `57 resided in Bennington, VT after the Rev and was there until his death in 1831. So both Josephs may have lived there. But, I found no documents of `32 there. It's possible that Joseph `32 was born in Hanover, MA since the family came from Scituate, MA originally. Joseph `32 was m. to Sage Randall. At least this is the info that came from my grand uncle, Capt. Charles F. House, of Lenox, MA--originally from Milwaukee, WI. Have been searching my little heart out for this 5th gr. grandpa.
