I received some House list emails, but somehow deleted them. I'm interested in the House family of the Mohawk area (Herkimer and Montgomery counties) and read a couple of interesting emails within the last two days. Could the sender make a copy and send it to me either via the House list or my email to RICHARDZON@aol.com? Thanks. Marcia Richardson

I AM SEARCHING FOR FAMILY OF OSCAR HOUSE POSSIBLY FROM ARKANSAS.HE DID MARRY BUT I DO NOT KNOW HIS WIFE'S NAME. HE HAD A DAUGHTER BORN IN 1907. HER NAME WAS IRENE ANNA HOUSE, ALEXANDER AND DIED AS A PAGE. IF YOU HAVE HEARD THESE NAMES PLEASE E-MAIL A RESPONSE TO NXTMISS@AOL.COM THANKS
Hi Marsha, I've been researching Capt Christian House for some time. You have him placed as the son of Conrad, who was the son of Johann Christian. May ask why you placed him there? I too have been making guesses as to how some of this family fits together, and it seems a lot of what has been said about Capt. Christian is questionable, and real facts are hard to come by. Melvin Rhodes Shaver, who did extensive research on the family, wants to make this Christian a son of a different Conrad, who was the son of George, but there is no real evidence for this. In fact there is evidence against this that has been discovered in Conrads will, and while Christian may have been dead by then, the will does not reference any of Christians children, while making reference of his other grandchildren. From his age its more likely that Christian is of the third generation, and a contemporary of this Conrad. I have also struggled with who Capt. Christian really married. There is a marriage record for a Christian House and Christian Richtmeyer in 1765 that makes sense for it to be the Capt. Notice, however, the 13 year gap between Maria and Conrad in the children listed for them. > 2. CHRISTIAN HOUSE was born abt. 1734 in Montgomery Co., NY. He married > (1) CHRISTINA RICHTMEYER 10 Sep 1765 in DRC at Stone Arabia; Montgomery > Co., NY. > He married (2) REBECCA HAYES abt. 1795. > This CHRISTIAN distinguished himself quite nicely in the Revolutionary War > attaining the rank of Captain. (therefore I call him "Capt. Chris" -- I > find these little nicknames useful to me to try and keep at least some of > these people "straight") > > Children of CHRISTIAN HOUSE and CHRISTINA RICHTMEYER are: > i. ELISABETH HOUSE, b. abt. 1767; > m. SOLOMON YOUKER/YUKER. > 7. ii. JOHN C. HOUSE, b. 07 Sep 1769; > d. 13 Apr 1853, Montgomery Co., NY > iii. MARIA/MARY HOUSE, b. abt. 1771. > iv. CONRAD HOUSE, b. 06 Mar 1784. > v. CATHARINE (INFANT) HOUSE, b. 11 Oct 1786; died 1787. > vi. CATHARINE HOUSE, b. 17 Jan 1790. I found in the church records for St Johnsville the baptisms for Conrad and Catharine. The parents are listed as Christian House and Christina, but I believe this may be a different couple. The sponsors for Conrad's baptism in 1784 were Conrad House and his wife Engelga. This is likely why Shaver places Christian as the son of Conrad and Engelje. But then why doesn't Christian or his son Conrad or daughter Catharine appear in the will I referenced above? And was this a different Christian House, given the large gap in the group of children? To add to the mystery, I never saw baptism records for Elisabeth, John, or Maria House. Is there any proof they belong to Capt Christian and Christina? I do feel "pretty" sure that John C House was the son of Capt Christian, but less sure who his mother was. In the DAR Patriot Index, Part II, 1990, page 1496 Christian House was a Capt.in NY, born ca 1748 in Germany, died 10-11-1809, married Christina Rechtmagerin. In the research room at the Old Stone Fort in Schoharie, in a folder on the House family full of notes and manuscripts, is written that Capt Christian House died on 7 Jun 1804, at the age of 56. (At least that makes him born in 1748, like the DAR record, even though the death date is different.) I looked everywhere in St Johnsville for some shred of fact on when he was born, when he died, where he was buried. Was it actually possible he came from Prussia in 1760, as reported in several places, and not really part of the House family of the Mohawk? (Not likely) In yet another DAR record it indicates that this Christian House, war hero, was married to Rebecca Hayes in 1769. I can find no marriage record for this, and Rebecca is not mentioned in any of the Hayes genealogy books. DAR records from earlier periods required no proof whatever to be accepted, and none seems to exist to support these claims. I noticed you thought Capt Christian married Rebecca Hayes about 1795. Can you share with me why you thought 1795? Anyway, the point I wanted to get across is that everything published about Capt House seems to be speculative, except that he did serve with distinction in the Tryon Co militia and at the Battle of Oriskany, he did live in St Johnsville, he is buried there in a grave no longer marked or recorded, he did have a son named John C house. It's probable he married Christian Richtmeyer in 1765, but if true whe was born in 1748, he was only 17 years old, and she was about 23. I would appreciate anything you have found in your own recent research on this fellow. I would love to pin him down. Regards, Bruce Woodworth

Hello list: Here is a list of the people I perceive to be the descendents of CONRAD HOUSE ((b. abt 1712, NYS) of PALATINE heritage. This information is taken mostly from the church records in the Montgomery and Herkimer County areas, and a few other sources. Input is *definitely* welcome and a fair percentage of the following is guesswork only! You will see that like most German/Dutch Palatine families, they all name their children the same names (there even is a "naming pattern" to follow (see http://www.sigma.net/etymes/dutchbap.html for more information on this subject -- it's very helpful!) Also again -- lest you just think I masochistically *enjoy* all this work (ok, well I kinda do!) I am looking for my ggggmother who was Anna ("Nancy") HOUSE. Nancy House married John PHILLIPS, probably in the Town of Danube, Herkimer Co., NY around 1800-1810, so I would guess she was born between 1780-1790. Her daughter, Lucinda, my gggmother, was born in 1817. If any of you have run across her, please give a holler! OK, well on to Conrad: 1.CONRAD HOUSE was born abt. 1712 in West Camp, Ulster Co., NY. He was the son of Christian and Maria Becker HAUS. He married (UNKNOWN) about 1732 in NYS. Children of CONRAD HOUSE and (UNKNOWN) are: 2. i. CHRISTIAN HOUSE, b. abt. 1734, Montgomery Co., NY. 3. ii. This CHRISTIAN distinguished himself quite nicely in the Revolutionary War attaining the rank of Captain. (therefore I call him "Capt. Hello list! Well I have *most* of the work I am able to do on my small data base complete by now, and so I am going to start posting it in bits (I think this is the most accessible format; LMK if anyone disagrees) Again, this data base is centering on the three sons of Christian and Maria Becker HOUSE, found in NYS from about 1710-1800. Here is the overview -- I'm going to do each of the three sons in separate e-mails: 1. CHRISTIAN HOUSE or HAUS: married (1) (Unknown -- who died at sea; she died in 1710 in the journey from Germany via England to USA (6 children of this union also landed on the NY shores -- namely Margaret b. 1686; Reinhard, b.abt. 1692; Johannes b. abt. 1698; Peter, b. abt. 1700; George, b. abt. 1702; Elisabeth b. 1708 (I know very little about any on these lines; I think Reinhard's line never left the Ulster County area and may have gone to PA; in the 4th e-mail I will include the little I know on these lines). CHRISTIAN HOUSE or HAUS married (2) MARIA CATHERINE ("THE WIDOW BECKER") on 27 Sep 1710 in West Camp Lutheran Church, West Camp, Ulster Co., NY. Children of CHRISTIAN HAUS/HOUSE and MARIA BECKER are: 4. vii. CONRAD HOUSE, b. abt. 1712. 5. viii. HERMANUS HOUSE, b. abt. 1716, Montgomery Co., NY. 6. ix. JOST/JOHAN JOST HOUSE, b. abt. 1714, Montgomery Co., NY. Marsha Strong Gainesville, FL

Melissa, I have a Hattie House married to Joseph Dashnaw. She was married previously to a Francis Vancor. One of Hattie and Joseph, daughters ( Elizabeth Dashnaw) married Henry Delbert Hemingway. Also I have another one of their daughters( Mary Dashnaw) who married Robert A. Lucas. Does any of this sound familar?
