The Martin House I am familiar with is listed in the 1870 Rowan County, N.C. census along with his brothers, and his mother Keziah. This is in the Providence Township. Martin House is among the Rowan County marriage bonds. Martin House, son of Joel and Keziah House, married to Mary Heilig, daughter of Eliza Heilig of Arkansas. Their children Walter Heilig, Lawney House Johnson, Lillian House. Bear in mind Walter was born in the 1880s as was Lawney; Lillian was born about 1890s or early 1900. Martin House and Mary Heilig were married on December 1888. As far as being Native American, I suspect Mary Heilig may have been, of what nation I am not sure. However, Martin's brother John, my grandfather, married Martha Crowell, in 1885; her mother was Cherokee, a woman named Rachel. Check these out and see what you come up with. Other lines include Hattie Grimes(md)- Frey, & her sister Mary Grimes. Some families still live in Robertson County TN. They once resided in Cedar Hill TN. Mariahs father was said to be of German Descent. Mariah is said to have been part Native American. She is said to have had a sister named Mattie or Mamie.
