Houghton, b. 29 Jan. 1862 & died 21 Mar 1913. I am not sure if this is my George. Mary HOUGHTON & SAMUEL SHAW'S CHILDREN: 1. Jane Eliz: b; 9 Mar 1847 Walworth Co. I don't know my great grandmother's parents names. She was born in Vermont according to all the census I have found and family lore says it was Orange County but I've written and struck out in each place, including Montpelier where the state records are supposed to be kept. I've also been lurking in the Vermont L site, and Orange Vermont L site. > > I have found a Melissa Houghton the right age in Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois in the 1850 census, living with Timmons family along with 3 younger children named Houghton all born in VT. I want it to be her so have ordered the marriage record of the Elizabeth (HOUGHTON) Timmons (husband Andrew) in hopes that Elizabeth's parents are listed and it will give me a clue. I know that she soon married Christian HAMMA, a German immigrant, and they lived their lives out in a community a few miles south of Nauvoo. Melissa and Christian had 13 children and I have info on them. > > Annette, keep up the good work and maybe my lurking will pay off. I want to be able to connect to someone in her family. Are all HOUGHTON'S from the UK? It seems that was the origin of most of the lines that go back very far. > > Nancy Nichols > nicgen@home.com >
