Hello Is anyone researching the Houghton family from Belper, Derbyshire? Welcome to the HOUGHTON mailing list! My name is Charlie Vella at cjvella@ix.netcom.com. I began this Houghton mailing list because I am in the process of revising J.W. Houghton's 1912 Houghton Genealogy. I am interested in compiling all the known descendants of the Houghton families in America. I am clearly willing to research any of my data (now 13,000 names) to help in your research, but would hope, in return, to receive your descendancy data. If you have any difficulty with the list please contact me at cjvella@ix.netcom.com. You are currently subscribed in "mail mode", which means that you will receive every posting made to HOUGHTON as a separate e-mail. The directions on how to change to digest mode are given below. 1. How to unsubscribe. Send a message to HOUGHTON-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains (in the body of the message) the command unsubscribe and no additional text. 2. How to subscribe. Whatever you just did worked, or you'd not be getting this message. But for future reference (for instance, if your subscription is cancelled for whatever reason and you want to resubscribe), just send the command "subscribe" to HOUGHTON-L-request@rootsweb.com. 3. How to change to digest mode (several postings are combined and sent to you together as a single large message). There are two steps. First, send the command "unsubscribe" to HOUGHTON-L-request@rootsweb.com to discontinue mail mode. Second, send the command "subscribe" to HOUGHTON-D-request@rootsweb.com to start receiving digests. 4. How to change to NOMAIL mode. There is no formal NOMAIL mode. All you have to do is follow the directions above and unsubscribe when you want the messages to stop, and then when you want them to start again, simply subscribe again. 5. If you'd like to post a message so everyone on the mailing list receives it, just send it to HOUGHTON-L@rootsweb.com. It will then be sent on to everyone in both mail and digest mode. You don't need to send it explicitly to both. For your verification, a transcript of the original subscription request is included below. -- >From ruth.hopkinson@ntlworld.com Thu Mar 13 14:35:35 2003 >Received: from mail.rootsweb.com (mail.rootsweb.com [192.168.16.34]) > by lists5.rootsweb.com (8.12.8/8.12.8) with ESMTP id h2DLZZLV025127 > for <HOUGHTON-L-request@lists5.rootsweb.com>; Thu, 13 Mar 2003 14:35:35 -0700 >Received: from mta07-svc.ntlworld.com (mta07-svc.ntlworld.com [62.253.162.47]) > by mail.rootsweb.com (8.12.8/8.12.4) with ESMTP id h2DLZYnw008565 > for <HOUGHTON-L-request@rootsweb.com>; Thu, 13 Mar 2003 14:35:35 -0700 >Received: from h2e6j8 ([62.253.48.96]) by mta07-svc.ntlworld.com > (InterMail vM.4.01.03.37 201-229-121-137-20020806) with SMTP > id <20030313213543.RSHA25105.mta07-svc.ntlworld.com@h2e6j8> > for <HOUGHTON-L-request@rootsweb.com>; > Thu, 13 Mar 2003 21:35:43 +0000 >From: "Ruth Hopkinson" <ruth.hopkinson@ntlworld.com> >To: <HOUGHTON-L-request@rootsweb.com> >Subject: subscribe >Date: Thu, 13 Mar 2003 21:34:57 -0000 >Message-ID: <NHBBJDHFGLAEMHKICJIBAEMCCDAA.ruth.hopkinson@ntlworld.com> >MIME-Version: 1.0 >Content-Type: text/plain; > charset="iso-8859-1" >X-Priority: 3 (Normal) >X-MSMail-Priority: Normal >X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook IMO, Build 9.0.2416 (9.0.2910.0) >Importance: Normal >X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2800.1106 > > >--- >Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. >Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). >Version: 6.0.459 / Virus Database: 258 - Release Date: 25/02/03 > --- Incoming mail is certified Virus Free.
