    3. Nancy, Charlie et al I originally set this list up when I found the new FamilySearch site a few months back - glad it is proving popular. You all may want to check out one of the pages on my site where there is more Houghton information I've collected over the years ... Its' at www.zen.co.uk/home/page/joe.houghton/HOUGHTON.HTM Anyone have Houghton's from Lincolnshire, UK? Regards Joe Houghton Joes Genealogy - www.zen.co.uk/home/page/joe.houghton/DEFAULT.HTM Your first stop for Genealogy links and beginners tips to using the Internet for family history! Researching TREW, LOCKING, JANNEY, HOUGHTON Writing from Bolton, Lancashire, UK -----Original Message----- From: Nancy Lange [mailto:nlange@foothill.net] Sent: 30 April 1999 22:58 To: HOUGHTON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: New Subscriber Info Dear Charlie... I just discovered the HOUGHTON list ... I've subscribed to numerous other lists, mostly areas in England, Australia, etc. looking for my other family roots ... and then the other evening I discovered that there are some individual names with their own lists, so subscribed to a few of those as well... that's terrific!! I've looked at and listed stuff on the GenForum HOUGHTON list, but I think this is much better!! But, I found a cousin on that list, so I think it's a wonderful one as well!! About my HOUGHTON line: My ggrandfather, Clarence HOUGHTON, b. Indiana, 1859, d. 1904, Clermont Co., Ohio. Married Laura Belle SELLS, b. 1859, Clermont Co., Ohio. They had several children ... if your want their info, I can give it to you. I'm not sure if you want ancestors or descendants or both, so I'll start with ancestors ... it's shorter. I'm currently researching Clarence's father, Ru(e)ben R. HOUGHTON ... b. Kentucky, unk. when or where ... I've ordered the 1850 Census for Fayette Co., KY as I found a Reuben listed in the index for same. He apparently was a photographer who travelled up & down the Ohio River, and at some point, settled down (?) in Indiana, where Clarence & his brother, Everett (there may have been other siblings) were born. Frankly, I'm not sure that my HOUGHTON's are related to all those other HOUGHTON's. So, until I find a link, I'll just keep rummaging through Census and other stuff ... unless you know of a link to this group? In the 1850 Jefferson Co., Louisville Dist 3 Census, I did find the following: Thomas HOUGHTON, Machinist, age 57, b. England wife: Prudence, age 50, b. Maine son: George A., age 27, Machinist, b. Indiana dtr: Caroline M., age 24, b. Ohio dtr: Mary J., Age 17, b. Ohio This family looks awfully good to be Rueben's parents/siblings ... particularly, the travelling part as reflected in the varying birthplaces. I've ordered the 1840 Census for Lawrence Co., Ohio & the 1830 Census for Hamilon Co., Ohio ... where I found Thomas on earlier indexes. If you want to be kept updated and/or wish the descendants of Clarence on down to .... my grandchildren? if you wish, let me know. Sincerely, Nancy Lange Auburn, CA
