Family History Library, Salt Lake City, Utah., Microfilm # 0844943 The Mayflower Descendants Vol.44 No 2 July 1994 Worester 73 { Case No., 31,026; Jonas Houghton } The inventory of the estate of Jonas Houghton, gentleman of Bolton, was taken September 4th 1739 by Josiah Richardson, Henry Houghton, and Elias Sawyer, and is a long and deatiled list of notes, bonds,clothing,tolls,deer skins,livestock, a nergo boy named Pompey, a homestead at f1000, and lands in Harvard and Leominster as well as Bolton, Mary Houghton attested to the inventory { 2:42-44 }. Administration was granted to the widow Mary Houghton on August 24, 1739, and she posted a f4000 bond with Jonathan Houghton, innholder, and Benjamin Houghton of Lancaster, also innholder, as sureties {176:316 }. Mary filed her account on November 2, 1743 {2:272}. A committee of five was appointed to divide the estate of over f415 in real estate, and it was recorded on May 20, 1744. The widow Mary was granted the easterly half of the house, the westerly haly of the cellar and half of the barn, together with lands including a lot on the southerly side of the road to Harvard., Six children each received a one - sixth part of the house and barn, viz, 2nd, Son Jonas {plus f41 additional in lands }; youngest son John { plus an additional f46 in lands; 3rd daughter Prudence; youngest daughter Persis; eldest daughter Betty, wife of Paul Welsh{plus land at f46}, and 2nd daughter Mary , wife of Moses Bailey {plus miscellaneous other land}. The division was signed by Mary{x} Houghton, Paul Welsh, Betty Welsh, Mary{x} Bayley, Jonas Houghton, Moses Bayley and Jabez Bearman as guardian to Prudence and Persis {2;301}. A later settlement of the widows thirds was dated Bolton , July 10, 1749 and divided amongst Jonas Houghton, Mary Bayley, Betty Welsh, Prudence Houghton and Persis Snow {3:211}.
