    3. Hi from Perth Western Australia . I have a great-great-grandfather and mother named Houghton. They had a daughter Emma Louisa born 29th May 1846 at Princes Place Tranmere Birkenhead Cheshire(Copy of B/C) She married James Stephen Nicholson an officer in the British Army in India. Emma's parents were William Henry Houghton and Ann Houighton Nee Brooks. William Henry gave his occupation as a Naval Engineer. Of interest is that Emma and two young children came to Australia via NZ in 1881. They stayed with relatives in South Australia. I do not know whether they were Houghtons or Brooks. They stayed for about 4 years before returning to England. Emma's husband did NOT come with them. I would be very pleased to correspond with anyone who knows of this family or their SA descendants. Our family legend has it that the "relatives" in SA were dairyman or milkmen. Emma's daughter was Grace Mabel Houghton and I note that these names appear in other correspondence. Grace married another Indian Army Officer Francis Cunnynghame-Hughes. Emma's son was Edmund James Houghton Nicholson who became my Grandfather. Clive Napier cnap@optusnet.com.au
