Does anyone know of a Mrs. M. A. Houghton living in the Dundas, Ancaster area in the 1830s. This is probably her second marriage, perhaps the first to an Estey with two daughters, Mary Jane and Eliza Ann. In the 1861 census she is living with Matthew and Eliza Ann Camp in Dundas, Wentworth Co., Ontario. She was born about 1794 in New Brunswick. Any information would be appreciated. Jane

My known ancestor was Benjamin Houghton, buried in Pownal, Bennington, Vt. in 1855. His wife was Amy Cummins, who died 5 years earlier. According to family recoreds Benjamin's father was Joseph Houghton and his mother was Martha Snow. Joseph Houghton appears in Pownal on the 179l census, and "Martha Houghton" appears in 1800. I have not confirmed Benjamin's birth or which Joseph Houghton was his father. Joseph Houghton and Martha Snow are shown as having 3 children in Bolton, Ma. between 1762 and 1769. A Joseph Houghton (no wife named) baptised 5 children in Leominster, MA, the first being Joseph and the last being Benjamin. Family records say that our Benjamin had an older brother, Joseph Houghton, who married Eunice Stark. She could have been the Eunice Stark born in Williamstown, MA in 1780. Our records say this younger Joseph Houghton died in the War of 1812. Eunice "Yates" got guardianship of the four children of Joseph Houfhron. Nancy was born February 10, 1785 in Stillwater, Sartoga, NY and died in Fairlee April 13, 1850. There are eleven children if you are interested in having Alanson's siblings. I have a question you might be able to answer. In searching the census I find an A.L. listed. Is he the same person as Alanson? My great grandfather was William James Houghton. He was born in Rugby, Warwickshire, England between 1881-1882. He moved to Collingwood, Ontario, Canada where he married Mary Emily Lawrence in 1901. They moved to the United States in 1923 or 1924.
