    2. Dorothy, My Houghton's/Haughton's were in Westmoreland Co, Va. by about 1630, then in Edenton, (Chowan Co) NC, an early town in te 1700's as well as Perquiman's Co.. Some of my descendants are Thomas, William Sr., William Jr., Jonathan (all Chowan Co.) then Jeremiah who moved to Huntsville Ala. in the 1800's, then to Jackson, Tenn..where he started a college. His descendants were Andrew Jackson Haughton, (Tenn. and Miss.) James Daniel Haughton, (Tenn. and Miss.) William Jackson Haughton (Miss.) my grandfather, my father James Curtis Haughton ( Aberdeen, Miss. and Ala..Fayette, Ala.)Then my brother, James Curtis Haughton, and myself Rosalyn Haughton Martty. Think this is accurage..mostly from memory, so don't count it as authentic. Supposedly our family came from upper Mass...then from England. I have researched family tree in England..and the Haughton/Houghton/Hoghton/DeHoghton in Leyland, England, near Preston..and LIverpool..some buried there. This is from research in the DAR library in Washington, and about 40 years of research. I am not sure about the connection to England, and have never discovered exactly who it was that migrated to America. I am still researching that. I applied for the DNA information, but so far don't understand how to interpret it, so havent' followed up on that. I have been too busy with other projects to research, and my office is in disarray after Katrina..so don't have the facility of looking up information now. It doesn't sound like to me that we are from the same line, though. Thanks for the note, Rosalyn Martty **************Start the year off right. 2. Hi Arlene I've checked Ancestry for your family but I don't think our families have a link. Mine came from the Speke area and moved to Northwich in the early 1800s However, I will open up my files, packed away for Christmas, in case there is an earlier connection. there were a lot of Houghtons in the Childwell area in those days. Her fathers name was Joseph and her mothers name was Ellen (nee Layland) Her father was a stonemason and he died quite young. I found my Grandmother on the 1901 Census as a 19 year old along with her brothers and sister and her mother was a widow then with the 4 kids at home. 3. Hello, I am doing research on Civil War nurses associated with Union County, PA, during the Civil War. Hopefully I will connect with some of their descendants. I am interested in knowing about their service as nurses, did they receive a pension as the soldiers, photographs of them, location of their graves and perhaps a photograph of the gravestone, husbands, and children. One of the women was: Lida Houghton Father: John Houghton Date of marriage: May 28, 1866. Davidson Co., TN Husband: Edward A. Green of Mill Creek, Huntingdon, PA She was a nurse at Hospital No. 3, Nashville, TN, 1864-1865 She was also a school teacher in Nashville between 1865-1866 Died: August 1908 Buried: Lewisburg, PA Thanks, Sid

    2. Thanks for replying. I have not been able to find which Joseph was the father of my Benjamin, but there were two Joseph Houghtons in Leominster. One died in 1770. The other one had 5 children in Leominster and may have been the father of my Benjamin. A Joseph H. was in Pownal, VT for the 1791 Census and died before 1800. Your Peter must have been a different family, maybe cousins. Jane Woodward ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
