I've "rescued" three old photographs belonging to the HOUGHTON Family including, two of Margaret Parker HOUGHTON both taken at studios in Providence, Rhode Island. One is dated 1889 with Margaret likely in her teens or 20's at the time and the other appears to have been taken in the 1880's as well. In the second photograph she is pictured with an unidentified girl. The third photograph is of Howard Marcellus HOUGHTON. There is no studio or location indicated, though the photograph appears to have been taken in the 1870's or 1880's with Howard likely in his 30's at the time. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this family: Margaret P. HOUGHTON was b. 1873 in NH to parents Marcellus Howard HOUGHTON (b. 1850) and Caroline PARKER (b. 1851). Margaret married Henry W. HOBBS (b. 1872 in MA) in 1901 and together they had 2 children, Elizabeth P. b. 1902 in MA and Caroline b. 1908 in ME. Margaret died in 1930. Marcellus Howard HOUGHTON was b. 12 May 1850 in Lowell, MA to parents Marcellus HOUGHTON (b.21 Sept 1819 in Hallowell, ME-1895) and Catherine Charlotte FOGG (b. 18 Jul 1822 in Thomaston, ME-1891). Marcellus was one of 9 children born to this couple including, Frances Eugene; Josiah; Malvina Amanda; Marcellus Howard; George Edmond; Catherine Alice; Marietta; Herbert Lincoln; and Eugenia G. HOUGHTON, all born between 1842 and 1862 in Middlesex and Worcester Co. MA. Marcellus married Caroline PARKER (b. 1851 in Merrimack, NH) on 22 May 1870 and together they had a daughter Margaret P. HOUGHTON b. 1873. I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that the photographs can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

Sorry, not in my family tree!
Bill I found the Snook references on family trees on Ancestry. I have found that Houghton references in these family trees are often loaded with errors, so you have to be careful. I would like to see the SAR application. Charlie, The files were on my hard drive on the computer which had massive problems and seem to be resolved, which are the ones originally sent you years ago, They were gleaned from Ancestry in a time which it could be done. In later times Ancestry perverted the process with their all inclusive practices which did not lend to a similar process as before, yes they were complained to, to no avail. If this does not address you concerns, please ask. Mike
I think we have been in contact before. My direct ancestor is Sarah Houghton Miller, who married Carpenter Miller. She was a sister to Esther Jane Houghton Wiley, as well as John Houghton, born 7 Sep 1806 in Union Co., PA. Somewhere I saw that they might have a brother James as well. In the obituary for a daughter of John Houghton, it says that her father was a direct descendant of Col. Jacob Houghton of New Jersey. I just found this out and would love to be able to make that connection if you can help me! Thank you for your e-mail! Bill
