3. Dear Charlie... I just discovered the HOUGHTON list ... I've subscribed to numerous other lists, mostly areas in England, Australia, etc. looking for my other family roots ... and then the other evening I discovered that there are some individual names with their own lists, so subscribed to a few of those as well... that's terrific!! I've looked at and listed stuff on the GenForum HOUGHTON list, but I think this is much better!! But, I found a cousin on that list, so I think it's a wonderful one as well!! About my HOUGHTON line: My ggrandfather, Clarence HOUGHTON, b. Indiana, 1859, d. 1904, Clermont Co., Ohio. Married Laura Belle SELLS, b. 1859, Clermont Co., Ohio. They had several children ... if your want their info, I can give it to you. I'm not sure if you want ancestors or descendants or both, so I'll start with ancestors ... it's shorter. I'm currently researching Clarence's father, Ru(e)ben R. HOUGHTON ... b. Kentucky, unk. when or where ... I've ordered the 1850 Census for Fayette Co., KY as I found a Reuben listed in the index for same. He apparently was a photographer who travelled up & down the Ohio River, and at some point, settled down (?) in Indiana, where Clarence & his brother, Everett (there may have been other siblings) were born. Frankly, I'm not sure that my HOUGHTON's are related to all those other HOUGHTON's. So, until I find a link, I'll just keep rummaging through Census and other stuff ... unless you know of a link to this group? In the 1850 Jefferson Co., Louisville Dist 3 Census, I did find the following: Thomas HOUGHTON, Machinist, age 57, b. England wife: Prudence, age 50, b. Maine son: George A., age 27, Machinist, b. Indiana dtr: Caroline M., age 24, b. Ohio dtr: Mary J., Age 17, b. Ohio This family looks awfully good to be Rueben's parents/siblings ... particularly, the travelling part as reflected in the varying birthplaces. I've ordered the 1840 Census for Lawrence Co., Ohio & the 1830 Census for Hamilon Co., Ohio ... where I found Thomas on earlier indexes. If you want to be kept updated and/or wish the descendants of Clarence on down to .... my grandchildren? if you wish, let me know. Sincerely, Nancy Lange Auburn, CA

2. Nancy: Have you searched the previous postings to this list? If you go to the following web address and type in HOUGHTON as the list name you can search by year. It's really helpful in finding someone who may have the same lineage. Also, everyone says that all Houghtons in America are related. I don't know if this is true or not, but welcome to the family, anyway! http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl Loretta B. P.S. Who are the parents of your Laura Bell SELLS? I have Sell/Sells names on my husband's side of the family.

1. Sarah Houghton & Daniel Goble
2. Hello, I am Evelyn Goble Steen and am new to the Houghton list. I have been doing research on the Goble family for quite a few years and have done research into the Houghton clan as it relates to the Goble family. Sarah Houghton was born Jul 30, 1672 in Lancaster, Worcester County, MA to John Houghton, III and Beatrix Joselyn/Walker. I have received conflicting information about the parentage of Beatrix. Both source files are from the LDS records. One lists Beatrix (Joselyn) Houghton and the other states Beatrix (Walker) Houghton, daughter of William Walker. Does anyone know which is correct? Sarah Houghton had 7 siblings. I have some information on each of them. She married Daniel Goble Jun 23, 1689 in Lancaster, MA. They had 8 children. I'm happy to share information with anyone interested. Evelyn Goble Steen GobleNews@aol.com GOBLE GENEALOGY HOME PAGE

1. Main Families/dates/migration
2. Hello, I am very excited... I have just finished uploading my whole family tree to the internet. There are almost 3,600 individuals, most dating pre-1900. Below are the major/main lines and their routes of migration. But there are hundreds of other surnames ("branches")... some having dozens of individuals each. I would sincerely love to trade info with anyone who thinks there is a connection :-) To view the entire database: http://www.myfamily.com enter user name: user1 enter password: user1 to see the individuals B & D dates, along with places, use the search option. 3. Hello Apparently we are not very closely related. My Houghton line came form a John Houghton who arrived with a large group of Quakers to western New Jersey around the1680s I have the line on down and there is apparently no known connection. However, if you are not on ROOTS-L, get on it. There is a HOUGHTON-L@rootsweb.com server run by Charles Vella. Mr. Vella has a cornucopia of Houghton family genealogy. I think you can sign up by addressing HOUGHTON-L-request@rootsweb.com Good luck ........Howard Houghton........ >Hi, >I am descended from Asa Houghton and Eliza Hobart. >Asa was b. abt Mar 1809, New York (Ionia Co., MI, census record) and c. >Jan 30, 1890, Ionia CO, MI (cemetary record) >He married Eliza abt 1832 in New York. >I have found several other Asa Houghtons in my search, but have never >been able to find a connection to any other Houghtons for my Asa.
