I am descended from Gabriel Huff who came to Salem, Indiana about 1820. Gabriel's son Gabriel had 14 children (13 of them boys) all born in and around Salem, Indiana. So there were a bunch of Huffs already there when your Isaiah came in 1846. Gabriel (Sr.) had another son Hiram who retained the old spelling Hough and had a son John, but he would have been born in the 1840s. However, Gabriel (Sr.) possibly had a brother John of which we know nothing. He could have used Hough as the spelling.
