I am a Hough descendant and have some good information on the Ashland Co., OH Houghs. I have David Hough, born in 1834, son of John Hough (1807-1863, born PA) and Susie Echelberger (b. 1812). My great grandparents ran the Hough-Echelberger annual family reunion in Ashland Co. OH in the 1920's and 1930's. David Hough had siblings Samuel Hough (1833), George Hough (1837), John Miller Hough (1843), and Henrietta Hough (1846). The father of the family, John Hough, is son of John Hough (1776-1862) and Hannah Miller (1780-1858) both of Maryland. I have more details on this line if you are interested. I would like to have the spouse and children of David Hough if you could provide them. Thanks... John Gruber
I am descended from Gabriel Huff who came to Salem, Indiana about 1820. Gabriel's son Gabriel had 14 children (13 of them boys) all born in and around Salem, Indiana. So there were a bunch of Huffs already there when your Isaiah came in 1846. Gabriel (Sr.) had another son Hiram who retained the old spelling Hough and had a son John, but he would have been born in the 1840s. However, Gabriel (Sr.) possibly had a brother John of which we know nothing. He could have used Hough as the spelling.
Hello Hough, Huffs, Hoff, How, Hue, however you pronounce it. I just thought I would recommend (though many will have already tried this webpage) the 1891 Census Page for Norfolk. http://census.pro.gov.uk/index_2.html I entered Hough just to see if anything would come up and Bingo! a Hough, though not one of mine, but he maybe related to a Hough on this list: Peter Hough Aged: 60 Born: Middlewick, Cheshire (probably Middlewich) County: Norwich Civil: Parish Higham Occupation: Living On His Own Means Hope this belongs to someone James Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Hello Folks, For those looking at Houghs in England, try: History Online, Search _ Palmers Index to The Times http://history.chadwyck.co.uk/noframes19/search?ACCESS=NEW Enter Hough as the keyword and then select a date range. The only thing is that it does not give you that much detailed information, it only appears to mention peoples names and a rough idea of why they are mentioned. regards James http://www.genealogy.com/users/h/o/u/James-Hough-cheshire/ Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Thanks Kelli My name is Graham .I wish to start tracing back my ancestry from my grandparents Walter Hough who married Phillis smith , both lived in Great Barr in Birmingham and worked at the HP sauce factory.
be sure to consider all the spelling variations when searching mine started out as Hoghe then Hough then Huff. so there no telling which on you'll find. Kelli
What Hough's are you researching?? Kelli
Most of my Hough's came from England to Penn to Virginia to Ohio to Missouri then to Oklahoma. They are an elusive bunch but once you hit a lead you can usually add a few hundred names to your tree. Kelli
Phebe Emily MOREDICK (b 1840) married William B. HOUGH (b 1835 Ohio) 20 Jun 1861 in Ohio. Have not been able to find William's parentage. He had an older sister named Sarah. They claimed their father was from England and their mother from Virginia. Phebe Emily was from Belmont County. They moved to Appanoose County, Iowa briefly in the 1870s then to Boulder, Colorado before 1880. William B. died in Boulder at age 70. Do not have Phebe Emily's death date yet. Children: James Willard HOUGH (1862-91), Tabitha Emily HOUGH (1863-98), Charles Magee HOUGH (1864), Mary Alice HOUGH (1865), Robert Malligan HOUGH (1870). There were also four others who died as infants. Would love to exchange info. Hello List: I want to thank everyone who responded to my query on the Howe/Hough line. I was successful locating my grandfather in Ireland in Salt Lake City(it was worth the 9 hour drive). My grandfather was Patrick Hough, born to Thomas Hough and Bridget Horan on March 3, 1866 in Cooleeny, Parish of Kilreekil or Kilkerrin, Union of Loughrea, District of Bullaum, County Galway. If this is familiar to anyone, please contact me at atkach@trib.com Thank you... Anne in Wyoming

I'm glad to see this list get some inquiries. Can anyone tell me if they are researching the name Howe? I have had no luck so far finding the family in Ireland under that name, therefore, I am going to "assume" that it was changed from Hough when my grandfather arrived here in the US. My mother swore that his family was Irish to the bone, but I was never given a clue as to where in Ireland he came from. Is there a certain area in Ireland where this name originated from? I am leaving for Salt Lake City this afternoon bound for a week of research at the Family History Library. I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions before I go....if not, wish me luck! Looking for any information that could get me started on tracing my gg grandmother Mary "Charity" Huff/Hough Halstead. I have been told by various family members the following: She was born in Germany She was raised in Cleveland Ohio She is the daughter of Marion & Katherine (unkn) Huff She married Justin Halsted/Halstead son of James & Sarah Doug Halsted/Halstead around 1832 in Ohio. Their first 5 children (some not identified) were born in Ohio. The next 6 (my g grandfather was the youngest) were born in MI I have located her gravesite in West Cooper Cemetery, Kalamazoo, MI If you recognize this branch of my family and can give me additional leads or information, it would be appreciated. gloria, Happy Family Hunter ----- Original Message ----- From: "scott newton" <s.j.newton@worldnet.att.net> To: <HOUGH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, April 28, 2001 10:09 PM Subject: Re: [Hough] Hough List > My Huffs start with Sarah HUFF and John HAMOR back to Atherton HOUGH. > Into family, > Evelyn > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <MargHough@aol.com> > To: <HOUGH-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Friday, April 27, 2001 8:41 AM > Subject: [Hough] Hough List > > > > Reporting in for Houghs - Fayette Hough family from New York, Vermont, and > Michigan. I'm also looking for a Rose Hough, born in Canada (possibly Winnipeg), the wife of George DURAND and mother of George Arden DURAND, also born in Canada, January 10, 1896. Young George attended the Math (Matthew?) Carpenter school in Superior, WI in 1905, and ended up in NYS by 1927. I have no idea about any other family members except I have a picture of an Aunt Dora/Dosa, but don't know if she was a DURAND or a HOUGH, or married to one! These are my husband's ancestors and I would love to surprise him with some info! ----- Original Message ----- From: Karen Lynch <loingsigh@gulfaccess.net> To: <HOUGH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, April 27, 2001 12:47 PM Subject: [Hough] My search for Hough > Hi List, > I'm searching for Rose Hough, born about 1865. Hi List, I'm searching for Rose Hough, born about 1865. Don't know where, yet. She married Edward Joseph Nadeau and they lived in Quebec and Toronto, Canada until 1889, when they moved to Buffalo, Erie Co. New York. They had two sons. They lost contact with the first one, but the second son was Melvel Edward Nadeau, born Sept 26, 1886. We are trying to find the family of Rose Hough. So far I have come up with nothing.
