I am giving up the HOTSAR-Talk discussion list. If someone on the list would agree to become the list manager, let me know. Otherwise, the procedure calls for it to be reported to Rootsweb as being available for "adoption", and anyone can pick it up. The HOTSAR Chapter web page is also being made available for adoption, but will show a link to the Texas State Society page in the meantime. If you're willing to pick up either the HOTSAR-Talk list, or the Chapter webpage, let me know at william.bost@us.army.mil Bill Bost List Owner --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Bill: Could you please let me know membership of the HOT Chapter Nominating Committee? I thought that at the July meeting you had said something about this committee's composition being on our chapter home page but I have searched it in vain several times. Could you kindly list the members of this committee? David Yeilding

David, The only thing that I know about this is that Sam singled me out inappropriately. I do not know what he thinks and I do not need anyone apologizing for me, especially when I do not agree that I have done anything to apologize for. Since Sam is no longer on the list then I suppose that he missed the interesting exchange of messages. Hopefully, this tempest in a teapot is over and we can forget the entire wretched affair and get on with the legitimate and needful business of the Chapter. Wayne: I am sure that Sam thought that you were the webmaster, by mistake. I am sure that he saw your name and the name of our listserv and he thought you were the one he should contact to unsubscribe. I would like to ask the webmaster this question: Did every subscriber to HOTSAR-TALK actually ask to be subscribed? I have received word that the email address of at least one Heart of Texas Chatper member appeared subscribing our listserv without asking for it. I remember subscribing to this listserv and I thought everyone had done so, but I am wondering if that is the case. As listowner, perhaps I should clarify... The HOTSAR-Talk discussion list is what is commonly referred to as a listserv, or mailing list, or discussion list. The concept of a listserv is to provide a way for the list members to share discussions with other interested persons by entering only one address (that of the list itself), without having to enter individual email addresses for each individual list member. As a benefit of Chapter membership, and after checking with one of the other senior Chapter members about the idea, Compatriots with email addresses were added to this discussion list, with the option (always) of unsubscribing by following the instructions. This will not be the case in future, given the evident confusion it causes. In other words, the list will only be "opt-in", meaning you opt to subscribe, rather than be subscribed automatically as a member benefit. If list members who do not want to be list subscribers will let me know, or don't know how to unsubscribe themselves, I will delete their address for them. It is easy to take care of. If you want to send a note to me as the list administrator, send it to: HOTSAR-TALK-admin@rootsweb.com The HOTSAR-Talk list and the Chapter webpage are two different things. I am the Listowner for the HOTSAR-Talk discussion list, and the Webmaster for the Chapter webpage. Compatriot Farrow was unsubscribed from the discussion list when I read his note (which went to the discussion list) that he didn't want the extra messages. Taken care of over the weekend. David, As you said in your email to Sam Farrow, we do not know each other very well. In the short time that I have known you, I have learned that you are a very gracious and kind gentleman. You impress me as a man who truly seeks to promote the common good and to elevate rather than to demean. In the current climate of our country, I think that such traits are becoming ever more rare. I am sure that Mr. Farrow's family credentials are impeccable, as are yours and mine and all of our members. One does not become a member of the Sons of the American Revolution withour such certification. In my own case, my family predates the existence of the United States by several centuries and I say this having proudly served the United States for over thirty five years either in a military or civilian capacity. Among my roots are John C. Calhoun, described by the historian, John Hicks as "the foremost spokesman of the Old South" and twice Vice President of the United States; Major William Caldwell, said to the be one of the first militia officers appointed by George III in Colonial Virginia and the Reverend Richard Denton, who founded the first Presbyterian Church in North America in Hempstead, Long Island, New York, circa 1645. This says nothing of the Ball family, the Richeys, the Seawrights, the Dunns, the Agnews, or the Crosbys or the Wilsons, hardy Scotsmen who settled first in Ulster before braving the cold North Atlantic to settle this continent. I do not ordinarily discuss my family, especially with anyone that I do not know well, but as Sam's lineage was brought up, I felt that a word on a few of my ancestors was in order. I am indeed active in genealogical research and I have learned quite a bit about my roots. I do not say this to tout my research skills, because I am aware of their limitations, but rather to acknowledge that I build on the efforts of many of my line who have preceeded me. I build in some small way on the work of aunts, my sister, my own children, my distant kinsmen, Leonardo Andrea of Columbia, South Carolina, M. A. Lester of New York City, and Lelia Ritchie Mize of Athens Georgia, author of THREADS OF ANCESTORS and such historians and genealogists as John Bodie, author of HISTORICAL SOUTHERN FAMILIES, and Landon C. Bell, author of THE OLD FREE STATE and CUMBERLAND PARISH LUNENGURG COUNTY, VIRGINIA, 1746 -1816. Certainly, I bear Mr. Farrow no ill will. I wish that he could find a couple of hours every three months to attend our meetings as well as a stray hour now and then to attend the meetings of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, to which we both belong. As far as I am concerned, he defined his territory and I defined mine. There is no reason that we could not work together in the future. As far as this most unfortunate incident is conderned, I am distressed that it occured but I was terribly embarassed to be singled out in such an unkind manner. It was my intent to support the President of the SAR in his efforts to build up this organization. I shall continue to support him to the best of my ablility. In my opinion, if Mr. Farrow did not want to receive correspondance through HOTSAR-TALK, he had other options open to him than to single me out. I think it would have been much more preferrable for him to have requested that his name be removed from the list. After all, I think that I am correct that all of us who receive correspondance through HOTSAR-TALK had to agree to accept the mailings. It is unfortanuate that he chose to accept the talk line at work but, again, that was his choice. Perhaps a wiser choice would have been to accept the mail on his personal email account. Again, I am coming to have a high regard for you as I am for all the gentlemen in our SAR chapter. I look forward to a long association with all. As Dick Arnold said to me, "joining the SAR is the beginning of a life long association." With best wishes and kindest regards, Henry Wayne Wilson Lieutenant Colonel, U. S. Sam: Please overlook Wayne's message as he simply does not know you and, I guess, he became a bit agitated at your email coming from your office. Sam is a greatly valued member of the Heart of Texas SAR Chapter as is Wayne Wilson. Both are fine gentlemen and fine compatriots. We need both plus we need many more. I can say without fear of contradition that Sam Farrow is one of the most highly respected men in Temple and he is a highly respected banker at the First National Bank, a part of Extraco Banks. He is a native of Temple and is a great asset to our community and to our chapter! I do not know Wayne Wilson nearly so well nor have I known him for anything as long as I have had the pleasure to know Sam, but I value Wayne and he can and does make contributions to our chapter and to our community. I know, for instance, that he is active in genealogical societies and research. I thought I just might share a few words about both these fine men and I do sincerely hope that Sam will overlook what I see was a hasty response since Wayne had no idea who Sam was. I think that Wayne saw that Sam's email came from Extraco Bank and thought that somehow or other there had been a mistake and that he had inadvertently gotten Sam into the system. I know that Wayne would never in a million years have intended to diminish a fellow compatriot, never. I think Wayne will learn to appreciate Sam and his family in our chapter (our highly respected C. O. Buckellew is Sam's uncle and Buckellew's five grandson members are Sam's nephews. Sam was the late Mrs. Ruth Buckellew's nephew). One of Sam's most obvious and endearing qualities is his amazing ability to meet someone and then remember his or her name the next time he sees him or her. I guess that this trait, among many others, has enabled him to be successful banker that he is. I doff my hat to you both, Wayne and Sam. My best wishes, David Yeilding Wayne Wilson wrote: > Mr. Farrow, > Please be advised, Sir, that I had no damn idea that you were on my mail > list. Please do not bother to contact me again for any reason. I had no intention to contact you at all and will not contact you again.
