My favorite is Henry Hostetler, born in Somerset Cty, PA, 10 different birthdates reported to me ranging from 1800 to 1811. History has it that he had a family, wife and 3 daughters, lived in present day Petersburg, VA. In 1854, his family tried to find him to disburse his share of the family fortune, but to no avail. In 1854, the name of this town was Lunice Creek, because when the town wanted their own Post Office in 1833, of course there were 2 Petersburgs in VA., therefore the name change. When WV became a state in 1860(?), the name was changed back to Petersburg. This may have contributed to confusion.
