Pleasant Jane Shaw Hostetler, 85, of Woodcrest Circle, Scottdale, and former resident of Mt. Pleasant, died Monday evening, Jan. 25, 2010, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born Aug. 2, 1924, in Connellsville, a daughter of the late Theodore R. and Ruth M. Showman Shaw. Jane was a member of the Scottdale Mennonite Church and a former member of the Mt. Pleasant Church of God, where she served as deacon and church council member with more than 30 years of membership. Jan was a graduate of Connellsville High School, class of 1942, and a graduate of the former Mt. Pleasant Hospital School of Nursing. She had been employed by as a registered nurse for Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant, and also Dr. Shadiya Al-Maliah, of Mt. Pleasant, with a total of 40 years in the medical profession. Jane enjoyed spending her winters in Sanibel Island, Fla., for 15 years with her late husband, Ralph, and his family. She especially enjoyed reading and spending quality time with her seven grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Jane was known by her family and friends for her fondness of her feline friends, Baby James, Kiss Kiss and Sonny Boy. Jane's memories will f! orever remain in the hearts of her loving and devoted children, R. Brent Hostetler and his wife, Stephanie (Green), of New London, Conn., Ruth Ann Hostetler, of Aspen, Colo., Nancy Jane Hostetler, of Denver, Colo., David Shaw Hostetler, of Boise, Idaho, and Daniel Coffman Hostetler and his wife, Toni (Maiorano), of Mt. Pleasant; and her seven grandchildren, Carrie Emma Hostetler, of New London, Conn., Leah Elizabeth Hostetler, of Towson, Md., Rachael Elizabeth Marshal, of Savannah, Ga., Jacob Daniel Hostetler, of Mt. Pleasant, Danielle Louise Hostetler, of Mt. Pleasant, Levi David Hostetler, of Boise, and Rose Hostetler, of Boise. In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph C. Hostetler Jr., on Sept. 8, 1993; a son, Theodore Shaw Hostetler, in 1956; and a brother, Joseph F. Shaw, in 2005. Jane's family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale. A celebration of Jane's l! ife will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Scottdale Mennonite Church, M arket and Grove streets, Scottdale, with her pastors, the Revs. Conrad and Donna Mast, officiating. In lieu of flowers, Jane's family suggests memorials be made to the Mt. Pleasant Library, the Leukemia Society or to the Scottdale Mennonite Church, in her memory.
