    1. RE: [HORTON] Any Horton Connection in Philadelphia

    3. As I have both Horton & Cleveland (southern) lines, this seems a good time to inquire about James (Alexander or F) Horton b. 1816 and Martha McWhorter Horton, b. 1825, in South Carolina. They appear on the 1860 and 1880 census in Floyd Co. Georgia. Their son (Albert James Horton b 1859) married Lillie Cleveland, daughter of Ely John Cleveland and Rebecca Caroline Isbell Cleveland (both of South Carolina, although they may have been in Georgia and/or Alabama just before immigrating to Texas in the 1880s) in Grimes County, TX in about 1890. In the 1880 census, James F. Horton's father's birthplace is Virginia - also the birthplace of Rebecca Isbell's grandparents - Pendleton Isbell. I can track the Cleveland and Isbell lines to their arrival in Virginia, but I haven't been able to find the Horton and McWhorter families before 1860. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? The earlies Horton of which I have a record is a Mary Horton married in Berks Co PA which was then Philadelphia County, or administered as such. She was married in 1727 as a Quaker and thus must have been born about 1706 or 7 - maybe. But I know nothing further about her or her connections to any main line group. However, several Horton men came to Philadelphia for Medical training. also the Cleveland surname came into that region from the Long Island Horton group. Donna
