    1. Rev War Hortons - Kershaw SC
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: HORTON Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BBk.2ACIB/2355 Message Board Post: Has anyone applied for membership in the SAR/DAR based on their relationship to any of the Horton's in Kershaw SC? I am related to Amos Horton I in several different lines through his sons Daniel b. 1740 and John b. 1745. I've seen mention that five of Amos I's sons served in the revolution, and have found both Daniel and John in the SAR patriot index. In addition, I've communicated with a gentleman who was accepted into the SAR based on his relationship to John Horton b. 1745. I am trying to locate the documentation that proves the father-son relationship between John Horton and his son Ivy b.1789 that apparently exists in the form of the will and estate papers of John Horton. These were used by the gentleman mentioned above, though he no longer has copies. The information in the papers provides the following - John Horton was a Revolutionary War soldier. He died intestate on August 16, 1813 in Kershaw District South Carolina. His estate records, filed 30 January 1817, list the following heirs... Widow, Elizabeth Horton. Children: (a) William Horton. (b) Hardy Horton. (c) Abraham Horton. (d) Jonathan Horton. (e) Reuben Horton. (f) Ivy Horton. (g) James Oram and Jensey Oram, his wife. (h) Robert Smith and Hannah Smith, his wife. (i) William Craig/Cragg and Rebecca Craig/Cragg, his wife. (j) Wesley Horton (minor). (k) Jane Horton (minor). Also, Charlotte Horton (minor, grand-daughter living in Tennessee). I apologize for the length of this message, but if someone knows where I might locate these papers I would appreciate it. I'm happy to do the leg work myself, I simply am not sure where to look. And of course I would be very interested in hearing from anyone else who has joined either organization through their Horton lineage. Thanks! Rog
