The late Johnny Horton is a descendant of James Horton, (Orange County NC), Thomas Horton, Sr. of Orange County NC and Elbert County Georgia, and Thomas Horton, Jr.of Elbert County Georgia and into east Texas. If you need more information on this line please let me know as I have most of the descendants from the line. I am in touch with family members of this line often and will be glad to exchange information with you. I do not have the Freda Marlene Horton that you mentioned. Can you tell me how she fits into the family? Johnny Horton also has a son that is a musical entertainer in Branson, Mo. Thelma, "My" Hortons were from Orange Co., NC, Elbert and Washington Cos., GA, some went to Jefferson Co., FL (as my gr-gr-grandmother Martha did). She married Mitchel H/Umphress in Washington Co., GA as did her sister Sarah Webb Horton (dec'd)before her. When he died in 1859 she took or followed her sons and daughter Artemissia (who married Levi Horton) and they settled in the Dallas area in about 1872. Martha's parents were (I think) William, and Sarah Horton. Martha Umphress is buried in the Pleasant Mound Cemetary, Dallas, along with many of the Umphress's and Hortons. Do you have any connection to this family? I'm having a heck of a time in that family's research.
