I am Ann Williams' sister whom I believe you have had some correspondence with. I think I also visited with you by phone. Anyway, do you know who were Anna Bell Parce Horton Bryant's parents? Ann and I have wondered if they were Franklin O. and Margaret Horton Parce, married in Illinois in 1852. (I have a copy of the marriage info showing date.) This Margaret's father was Jehiel W. Horton. They are listed in the 1850 Illinois census as J. W. Horton, wife Ann, with daughters Mary age 19, Margaret age 17, Elizabeth age 15 and Catherine age 14, all living together at Batavia, Kane County, Ill. In the Iowa 1856 census, part of them are living in Olive Township, Clinton County, Iowa. They are all on one sheet as follows: Jehiel W. Horton, wife Ann, ages 65 and 60 and living in the same house are T (hard to read, could be wrong) W. Horton and his wife Jemima (hard to read, could be wrong) ages 38 and 35. All were shown as having been born in New York except for Jemima who was born in PA. Jehiel and Ann had been living in Iowa for 3 years and the younger couple had just arrived. Down two families is G(abriel) H. Horton, his wife Mary J.(ane) and two sons Marion age 3 and Chester age 1. Gabriel and Mary Jane are ages 24 and 23 with both having been born in New York and the boys in Iowa. They had lived in Clinton County for 3 years. Immediately down from the Gabriel Hortons are Mahlon and Mary A. Thorne and ___?___A. Thorne, ages 27, 22 and 3 respectively with the couple having been born in New York and the son being born in Iowa and the couple had lived in Clinton County for 3 years with the son being born in Iowa. Immediately next in line were Franklin and Margaret Parc(e) with son Franklin age 2 all having born in New York, and having just arrived in Clinton County. Franklin's age was 25 and Margaret's was 19. I have been trying to find out the relationship of Jehiel to Elihu and Johanna Coleman Horton with Elihu's father being Silas and Experience Vail Horton. Elihu had a son, Jehiel, born about 1792 in New York and the age pretty well fits, so we will see if there is actually a relationship. From the way the families were placed in the 1856 Iowa census, it makes me wonder if Gabriel could be a son, nephew or some other relation of Jehiel. A descendant of Eugene Marion Horton, Chester's older brother, has evidence that Gabriel was born in Orange County, New York and possibly that a Barnabas was his father. Do you have any info? If the above is correct, this would mean that Chester and Anna Bell were cousins. Let me hear from you, Ella Mae Schmidt at [email protected]
