    1. [HORTON] UK travels in 24hrs for the Horton communities, info

    3. This is some information for the gentleman that recently said on this list that he wanted to travel to all the Horton communities in the UK in 24 hours, quoted: "[email protected] wrote: Hi Thomas or is it Tom? The lady from England was right when she said that there were several places called Horton. There is one in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Lancashire, Northamptonshire, Shropshire, Shropshire, Somerset, Staffordshire, Surrey, Swansea and Wiltshire. In addition there is Horton Cross in Somerset, Horton Green in Cheshire, Horton Heath in Hampshire, Horton-in-Ribblesdale in North Yorkshire, Horton Kirby in Kent and Horton-cum-Studley in Oxfordshire. My son and myself were going to try and visit all of them in twenty four hours since Britain is less than nine hundred miles long but he was killed in a motor cycle accident last year. However I may be able to persuade my wife or my daughter to accompany me on this reckless journey. As far as my Family Tree is concerned I am told that my Great-Grandfather went to America sometime between 1881 and 1911 but I can find no evidence of this. His name was Thomas and he was born in 1846 and he came from Stoke-on Trent so if you or anyone else can shed any light on this I would be very grateful. Researching the Horton name in North Staffordshire I have about 200 Hortons from 1846 to 1901 but cannot link my family to any of them. Keep on searching! Ed Horton" See below: ---------------------------------------------------- Thanks for this Ron. I think he is being a but ambitious to try to visit all these in 24 hours. I am sure it can be done but many of these are off our motorway roads and travel times would lengthen quite a bit because of this. Is the mailing list almost all about Hortons in the USA? Best wishes, Richard

    3. Yes, most of the Horton researchers on this list *do* seem to be in the US. However, I am in Australia researching Hortons in the UK! There are a few UK researchers I notice too. I too also think the traveller is VERY ambitious thinking just because the uk is relatively small, he can visit all those places in 24 hours!!! You could spend most of that time on the M25 in various directions...! Good luck to him anyway. Also good luck to the Uk guys getting a word in amongst the US queries! No offence, US, there are so many of you. regards, Claire. --- Ron <[email protected]> wrote: > This is some information for the gentleman that recently said on this > list that > he wanted to travel to all the Horton communities in the UK in 24 > hours, quoted: > > "[email protected] wrote: > Hi Thomas or is it Tom? > The lady from England was right when she said that there were > several places called Horton.
