Marilyn - There are mentions if Isaac Horton and others related to him in Tioga County, PA. They were in many ways nomadic in that Isaac was a builder of mills and was in ohio for awhile building mills in pioneer days but he did return to tioga County. There is another Horton Book, The Hortons In America by Adelaide Horton White 1929 - also found in major State Libraries and some large city Public Libraries, and it is an update of the earlier Horton Chronicles mentioned earlier and quoted by Lillian Horton Altpeter. It is reprinted I believe by a publishing company in Salem, MA. sorry I don't have the name of the publisher at hand but will look it up when I return. It had more copies made than the former book and includes all that was in the former book as well as corrections and additions. The reprint I have not seen but I presume it was as it originally was printed. Any genealogical book usually had errors and this one was no exception. Hang in there - Sorry I can't help you more on the Hyatts. Donna
Debbie - You are welcome and thank you for identifying City Island's location. We will try to keep in touch and wish you the best in Hunting. The name Gilbert has been a hard nut to crack in many Horton branches, and they really are few in number - and that should make it easy - but no help in smaller numbers. Let us know if you make a breakthrough as many of us on the Line are keeping records for future reference. Thanks. Donna
Hi Donna Thanks for taking a look at the chronicles. Yeah the information that has been found so far is welcomed help from two newly found cousins.. Kathy has done a lot of work documenting the information that I had found. And Ken was the one that found the grave sites. City Island is actually a small little island in the long Island sound. It's considered East Chester / West Chester. Anyway... The census put Gilbert in Sag Harbor in the 1850s & 60s. We find him again in the 1870s and 80s in Pulham on City Island. He is either Jackson Gilbert Horton or Gilbert Jackson Horton. Not sure as it is documented both ways. When I look into earlier census of course they don't give good information as it only states a child of that age. And if that is true then his father could be Gilbert also but not sure at all. I'm trying to get my brother, cousins and uncle to do a DNA test hopefully giving me an idea on which way to look. Enjoy your travels. Thanks again for looking. Debbie

Yes, I am interested in the reading the article. Thank you very much. jean
Having searched diligently - I find from some e-mail back in March 2005 a J. Gilbert Horton 1821-1893 m. Adelia ----------. I cannot match J. Gilbert to any other person or family. Suggest - looking in a local newspaper obituaries for the year 1893 for possible reference information. Failing that, I would suggest finding the 1850 census for that county and place in New York and see if J. Gilbert or Gilbert Horton is located near other Hortons in the same place. That might give unexpected clues. We had Pulham spelled "Pelham." Question: When you mention City Island, NY is that a reference to Long Island?? I will be out of touch for about 2 weeks - hope to be back in after the 21st. Happy Hunting. Donna Horton
Marilyn - Maggie Hyatt mentioned on p.30 of Lillian Horton Altpeter's book. She married Erastus Horton b. 4 Jul 1873 d.after 1960. He was s/o Wallace Horton b 11 Aug 1833 d. 22 Aug 1913 and Sarah Bush. They lived in Warwick (which I believe was in Orange Co NY). No Drowns mentioned in the book nor are there other Hyatts mentioned. Wallace Horton is 8th generation from Barnabas1 Horton, of Southold LI. Hope this helps. Donna Horton
