We go through his daughter, Sarah. I am a member of DAR through my father's line, and wrote to National's asking if anyone had submitted membership papers through Sarah Horton (who married John Wesley Scarborough), and no one has done so. Papers have been filed through Jesse, son of Amos Jr. So basically we're in the same boat. Have you gotten any documentation? I have lots of family trees, but no legal documents to prove it.

Recently I sent a response email to someone on this list that was looking for Hortons in Allegany Co., NY. I'm sorry I saw the Allegany and I happen to have a little on the Hortons of Burton (now Allegany), Cattaraugus Co., NY so I sent some of the info that I have on them. I need to pay more attention between counties and towns. Sorry, but maybe you can add those to your database for someone else. Ron

Ny moving to Kent Co. Mi. bef 1860. I have large data base would like to add your. Ann in Ks. My Hortons are from Allegany Co., and hopefully we will have some in common, because I have hit a brick wall! The furthest back I can go is Luther Horton (born approx. 1777, died 1861), married to Clarissa (born approx. 1788 and died 1860), buried in Independence. I originally thought Luther was descended from Barnabas Horton through his son Caleb, but now I am really not so sure and am having a hard time trying to get more info on this Luther. There is definitely a Luther Horton married to Clarissa descended from Caleb, but I'm not convinced yet that my Luther is the same person - more investigation is needed. At any rate - my Luther had a son, also called Luther, born in CT in 1824, married to Maria, and died 1897. They lived in Independence and had 6 children: Jesse, Norman Luther, Ellen, John, Mary, and Sarah. I am descended from his son John (my GG Grandfather) and can provide loads more info from that generation forward. This branch lived in both Allegany and Steuben counties. Going back to Luther (the younger one), it is very possible that he had siblings that moved on to Michigan, and I would really love to know more about his generation. If you are able to fill in any gaps for me, I'd be SO appreciative! Best Regards, Mary K.

Hi: If you give the dates and known locations for all the parties involved here it would be easier for someone to help you. I'm sure I found your Thomas Horton b. 17 Mar 1908, d. Apr 1970 with a Social Security #445-09-4334. If you would call or go to the Social Security Office close to you, I believe they would give you his records which should help you get started. Also write or go to the County Court House where he last lived which should be at Texola, OK. Zip code of 73668 and get his or his fathers or both of their death certificates. Give it a shot.
