    1. Hiram Horton - Mary Walker Click
    2. Jim - I can fill you in on some of the issue of this couple, however I have not found a Charles Horton. Hiram is Hiram Kilgore Horton b. 1 May 1821 at Speers Ferry, VA. d. 4 Jan 1904 9on Upper Clinch, Hancock Co., TN. m. 29 Sep 1847 Mary Walker Click d/o Willliam Lewis Cliick and Rosannah Cooper. Hiram James Horton b. 18 Dec 1864 Upper Clinch, Hancock Co., TN. d 12 Feb 1926. 9. Isaac Ellis Horton b. 26 Apr 1867 Upper Clinch, Hancock Co., TN d. 15 Jul 1945. m. Isabel Begley c 1884. 10. Peter Nelson Horton b. 2 Apr 1869 Upper Clinch, Hancock Co., TN m. 6 Jan 1889 Isabel Church d/o Hiram Church and Laura E. Horton. 11. Mack Daniel Horton b. 11 Jan 1874 Upper Clinch. Hancock Co., TN d 6 Jul 1912. m. Maude Chalfont c 1894. Above Hiram Horton was son of Isaac Horton b 7 Jun 1798 Stafford or Fauquier Co., VA and Rhoda Falin d/o Thomas Falin it is believed. This Isaac Horton is the son of Elijah Horton and Catherine Nelson of Fauquier Co VA and who migrated to Russell county and the on to Scott Co., VA where they died. I will send you details tomorrow on Isaac above who was married twice and had numerous children by both wives. As I said yesterday - we are cousins and we do have common ancesters. There are many of us scattered throughout the nation. We are not organized into a group socially but down the road I am looking forward to that eventual goal. Thank you for bringing up this query because, to my knowledge, the above data has never been made publically available. I received most of it some 27 years ago from Frances (Horton) Street who shares your ancestors in this branch. Hers - from Peter Nelson Horton (above) and down from there. Later - Perry

    1. Re: Hiram Horton / Mary Click
    2. Jim - While you have more details reference to offspring of Hiram and Mary Click Horton, I can tell you that this line from Hiram backwards will take you into Russell County and Tazewell County, Virginia and is a recognized family group with roots in Stafford County, VA. I am one of that group and so we will be some kind of cousin before we're through putting this together. You neglected to include your father's name and your mother's also. So many Hortons are named Charles and many born near the same year - it is helpful to have that detail to isolate it from another. Not all the data is readily available to me at the moment but I should be able to get it tomorrow and will get back to you. We thank Myra for helping us to get connected. Clinch River has its headwaters about Tazewell County, runs through Russell and Scott county which is where Hiram Horton was said to be born about 1842 and married Mary Walker Click about 1861. The only son I show presently is Peter Nelson Horton. However, I feel sure there is more information in an index file that has yet to be programmed into the computer database. Later - Perry Horton

The Record would be New York Genealogical & Biographical Record. Is anyone aware of this article or who Jones is? I've been unable to locate it in the Record. Also, the manuscript says: "Write up quite fully the imporance of land records in tracing genealogy, and state that the present work is an example of a family history based almost entirely on the history of land holdings. Point out that no other method would enable one to distinguish the various Hortons of the same name living in one vicinity." This manuscript was donated to the New England Historic Genealogy Society by "Douglas Horton, New York, New York, 9 Feb 1949." Does anyone know if a finished work exists or who this Douglas Horton is?

When I get to reading the Cleburne News I see so many names of people I knew when I was only a small boy; it surely makes me m my childhood days and it seems almost impossible to figure that it has been 40 years since Della Lindsey and I were married. As some know, she is a sister of Drs. W.H. and J.M. Lindsey. My wife's father and mother and my father have long since passed on; but I am happy to say that my dear mother is still living. My family and I have been in Canada since 1906. I can't say I don't like Canada. There is one thing I can say, and that is it gets mighty cold here at times. We have had a very mild winter until the 5th of January when he had 30 to 57 below zero, lasting for several days. It is not uncommon to meet people with their noses frost-bitten. I hope Alec Harper has regained his health and that we will be permitted to go fishing and squirrel hunting again on Cane Creek. I wish all my friends in good old Cleburne a happy and prosperous year. J. L. Horton [Transcribed by Candace (Teal) Gravelle 26 May 2005]

On Christmas Eve, Miss Myrtle went to Birmingham to visit with relatives and friends and was suddenly stricken and removed to a hospital, pneumonia having developed. Physicians were unable to give relief to the sufferer, death coming to relieve her pain. Miss Myrtle was a splendid christian girl, whose influence for good will live on and on. Not only in the memory of her brother and sisters but of hosts of admiring friends and aquaintances, and in their homes, in her church, in the town and community, there is a deep sense of loss felt at Miss Myrtle's going away. But over their sorrowing hearts comes a hush and there is breathed those comforting words, "well done, thou good and faithful servant, thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things, enter thou into the joys of the lord." Miss Myrtle was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Heflin and an earnest worker in the Epworth League; also she was a member of the local Eastern Star which order took charge of the services at the church, following talks by Rev. W.S. Wessinger, pastor of the Heflin Methodist Episcopal church, South, and Rev. Hobart Murphree, her former pastor. The surviving sisters are: Mrs. Hessie Lowery of Birmingham Mrs. Zelma Barnes of Heflin Misses Ruth, Nelle and Laura Barker One brother, Neal Barker of Nauvoo, Ala The Uncles are Leonard Horton residing in Canada; Ansley, Asa, Ellis and Toy Horton of Quitman, Texas; and Mrs. Lizzie King, Mrs. Hattie Brown of Quitman, Tx and Mrs. N.R.
