His wife's name was Mary, I don't know the last name. They both died in Kansas between 1875 - 1880. A March 1, 1875 state census shows they lived in Big Creek Township, Neosho County, Kansas. As far as I know they had nine children. Isaac, Sarah, William, Phoebe, John, James, Amanda, Jesse (my great-grandfather) & Roney. The children lived with the oldest child Isaac Mitchell Horton shown on a 1880 census for South Haven, Sumner County, Kansas. My great-grandfather Jesse W. Horton moved to Oklahoma to make his home in 1899 and he died in Hunter, Garfield County, Oklahoma April 23, 1838. Any info would be appreciated.

Hunt & Amanda Louise Hunt of Farmersville, Collin County, Texas. They adopted Ozy Ray Horton, who was the son of Mark Horton and Amanda's niece, Candis Rickman. Ozy Ray was about six weeks old when his mother died and Amanda told her husband "to hitch up the wagon, they were going to get the baby". Sometime after Amanda died, Ozy Ray was legally adopted by John Hunt and his name was changed to Ozy Ray Hunt. Candis Rickman was the daughter of Amanda's sister, Martha Hunt and John Rickman. Hope this helps. You may contact me directly at hajtman@aol if I can furnish additional information. Sandra Hajtman

Surnames: Horton Peebles Truesdale Williams Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BBk.2ACIB/2402 Message Board Post: While searching for source information on the Truesdale family that migrated to Kershaw Co SC from Ireland in 1772, I came across an interesting tidbit of Horton information. The following information - Horton, John January 12, 1678/9 Horton, Robert June 20, 1678 [Mate to William Shackerly] Is in a list of "Burials at the Parish of St. Michaels, Barbados Island, 1678 and 1679" that can be found at http://english-america.com/places/bi167001.html#Barbados. What intrigues me is, in corresponding with other researchers of the Horton/Peebles/Truesdale/Williams lines of Kershaw, I see a persistent reference to the early progenitors of these families (except for the Horton line) as having been Royalist soldiers in England during the English Civil War, and according to these legend/rumors, these same persons fled England to avoid execution by the supporters of Cromwell. One researcher has identified one of his ancestors (who is somehow thought to be allied with both the Williams and Peebles soldiers) as having fled to Barbados and, for a period of time, was the governor of Barbados. Although I don't recall this being proven, this person feels very strongly that the Williams family in particular was with this group in Barbados prior to locating in SC. I'm sorry for the flakiness of the information, but I am going to have to search through my notes to try to remember the details. Anyway, here we have two Hortons who died and were buried in Barbados in 1679, roughly 30 years later. I've done the briefest of searches on Rootsweb for Hortons who died in Barbados and found nothing. Anyone care to speculate?
Jeannette, I honestly have no idea if I am related to Garland. He said he would look at our line. Our line started with William and Mary Horton - parents. Son, William - born November 14, 1814 (Tenn ?) Married Nancy (Nazery?) Norsworthy July 22, 1841 in Montgomery County and the Norsworthy's residence. Montgomery County, Lowndes County, Butler County, Crenshaw Counties. Source - Family bible of their youngest son William W. Horton and Salllie Taylor. I will be glad to share with you any info I have. Our line comes from their son John H. Horton. These abbreviations ....?? Did your husband's Hortons come from this area? I have lots more information. Please let me know. Are you going to the reunion? jean rigdon

Hi...I found some Hortons in Stoddard County MO, but not the line you mentioned. On a hunch, I typed in the first name of Walker and left the surname blank and found your line under the surname of WHORTON. I¹ve copied and pasted the transcription here and also attached a copy of the census page. Please let me know that you got it OK and were able to open it and read it. I hope this helps. Janet Horton-Payne P.S. I just got this back saying it exceeded the size allotted for your mailbox, so I removed the attachment of the census page. It¹s about 850k in size.
