    1. [HORTON] Hortons in England
    2. Hi Thomas or is it Tom? The lady from England was right when she said that there were several places called Horton. There is one in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Lancashire, Northamptonshire, Shropshire, Shropshire, Somerset, Staffordshire, Surrey, Swansea and Wiltshire. In addition there is Horton Cross in Somerset, Horton Green in Cheshire, Horton Heath in Hampshire, Horton-in-Ribblesdale in North Yorkshire, Horton Kirby in Kent and Horton-cum-Studley in Oxfordshire. My son and myself were going to try and visit all of them in twenty four hours since Britain is less than nine hundred miles long but he was killed in a motor cycle accident last year. However I may be able to persuade my wife or my daughter to accompany me on this reckless journey. As far as my Family Tree is concerned I am told that my Great-Grandfather went to America sometime between 1881 and 1911 but I can find no evidence of this. His name was Thomas and he was born in 1846 and he came from Stoke-on Trent so if you or anyone else can shed any light on this I would be very grateful. Researching the Horton name in North Staffordshire I have about 200 Hortons from 1846 to 1901 but cannot link my family to any of them. Keep on searching! Ed Horton

    3. Floyd My ggrandmother was Harriet Rebecca Horton b. 1850. Her father, I believe, was Reece Horton and they lived in Franklin Co., Alabama. Descriptions given of Harriet, lead me to believe she may have had Indian blood. Do you have any information about this branch of the Hortons that might help determine if she actually is Indian? My grandfather told my mother that the family was Indian and not "Black Dutch" as she had always been told. My grandfather was John Pace. 2. Hortons in England. I recently met a lady from England, named Horton. She came over from The U.K. when she was 8 years old. She said the problem with trying to trace Hortons in the U.K. is that the name is as common as Smith is in the U.S. She said there are several villages or towns named Horton. And I have been trying to work the U.K. and see who of my Hortons came to this country. Thomas W. Horton Glen Mills, PA

    3. While searching for George Horton and Suzanna Gray Horton, I learned that Suzanna may have been American Indian. She would've been born in VA or NC around 1775. That's a guess. (One daughter, Frances Gray, by a previous husband, James Gray was born in NC 1804)She married George about 1809. Anyway, I was told that there is a "Dawes Indian Registration List" Apparently, some American Indians did not register their heritage for a number of reasons. This might help someone. 3. Floyd My ggrandmother was Harriet Rebecca Horton. I believe she was born around 1849 in Alabama. She married Moses Jackson Pace from Franklin Co. Alabama. I believe she may have had Indian blood, but have no definite proof. I also believe, she may be the daughter of Reece Horton. I say this because he lived in Franklin Co. and had a daughter named Harriet R. b. 1849. My mother never saw her grandmother, Rebecca, but relatives described her as having the appearance of being Native American. I saw your posting and wondered if you might have some information which might help me determine if she was, in fact, Native American. Thanks for any information you might be able to provide.
