The story is that his parents died before he became of age and a relative took him in.(a uncle I'm told) He went on to marry a Susie Carter and had at least 7 children. From his first marriage he had Stella, and from his marriage to Susie he had Nella or Nellie, Della, Emil, Allie, Berniss, and Myrtle. In 1910 Ky. Miracode Index he would have been 37 yrs. old. Oh by the way his name is George. Thanks for any info.
MB, YES YOUR RIGHT! I have checked every Horton listed in the index Oneida and Herkimer co. No Harry or Harold as a child there. I have gone through some of the census years page by page but nothing. Like I said first year I found him is 1870 with first wife and my gr gr grandmother. Next is the 1880 with second wife and his other children. Sounds like you have gone the same route as me. Poor Harry had to have parents just cann`t seem to find out who they were! Diane in NY
Some of us are more out of the loop than others and farther behind with regard to research and familiarity. Its really helpful if posts include a date, or era and a location. Thanks, Good hunting! N
Dear Diane, I just rechecked the Ancestry search results for my Gabriel Horton and realized that it had not found him in 1850 either. He is there living with his son, Henry, listed as H.C., so their index must be 'Head of Household' too. It also can't find him in 1840 either and again he is right where he should be and was from 1790. Just one of the reasons I won't spend the money for the subscription. You checked the images for the families of: Amacas, Ann, Charles, Cornelia, Daniel, Elizabeth, Jehial, John, Norris, Richard and Thomas, too, right? M.B.
Mb, Well it was worth a try, I have a subscription to ancestry census and looked through and around the Boonville area but not Harry or Harold . I also have talked with the Booville Historian who has tried looking for info on him and he hasn`t had any luck either. He has been a very hard man to get info on. I also had seen the Harry in Onondaga. Well maybe someone out there will find something on him and his parents and post it. Thanks for looking Diane in NY
I'm a cousin of Eileen's and also, looking for David Horton. I believe the Ancestry.com site will let you do this sort of search; I don't have a subscription to check though. I never finished putting the printed index I have for 1850 into my data base. There is a Harry in Syracuse, Onondaga Co. on p.209 but I believe the index is just 'Head of Household' and not complete at that. Have you tried writing the Boonville library? They often have copies of the local census, possibly even the NY State census records which are great for finding those in-between moves? Hope this helps. Good Luck, M.B.
M. Brown, I have been searching for a Harry Horton born abt 1848 Boonvile Ny. don`t know his parents names but do have him in the 1870 Boonville census with his first wife Euretta Melvina Merchant and daugther Mary (my gr grandmother) and then again 1880 Boonville census with his second wife Rehetta with his children. Have you ever seen anything on him in your different census? Cann`t seem to find him in earlier census. Harry died in 1884 so nothing afterwards on him or family. Diane in Ny
Gilbert Horton - 25 in db. I am interested in the one in 1790 in Montgomery co. because I believe him to be a Gabriel not a Gilbert. Let me figure out how to put the data into an e-mail & I will send it to you. M.B.
Sorry, no Humphrey's or Umphrey at all. M.B.
When checking that data base for Horton's in NY. Please take a double look for Gilbert Horton's 1770 to 1830. I am still trying to make that link. All info on all Gilbert's in NY is welcome. :) Thanks Debbie Horton M. South Florida
Dear Steve, I have a data base of Hortons in New York which I can select by county. Would you be interested in a list of the page numbers for all the Hortons in Onondaga County in the 1810 and 1820 Federal Census? If you think it might be of use, let me know. M. Brown - [email protected]
M. Brown, please check your New York database for any use of the first name Humphrey or Umphrey in 1810 or earlier. By 1810 there was a Humphrey Horton old enough to be selling property in southern NJ, and one possibility is that he came down from New York or northern NJ. -- Dolores in Delaware M. wrote: I have a data base of Hortons in New York ---
