After many years of searching, I finally found information on my GGGrandmother, Nancy HORTON :-) Wow, she was a tough one to track down. I know nothing of her family except what is listed below. Don't know where they came from, when they came to this country, etc. etc. If anyone has any clues, I would be most greatful for any hints. I feel like it's Christmas all over again to finally realize Nancy wasn't born under a cabbage patch - LOL. Look forward to hearing from any long lost cousins!!! Judy Kinuel Strickland Marr:10 Oct 1828 Spouse:Nancy HORTON AMOS (widow of Nicholas Amos, who died in 1823) (Kinuel married Nancy Horton, daughter of William Horton, and possibly his widow Holly, in 1828. Nancy Horton was the widow of Nicholas Amos, who died in 1823 without a will. William Horton had died in 1818 without a will, but his estate records in Wake Co. gave his widow's name, listed his daughter Nancy as one of the next of kin, and gave Nancy's married name. Nancy drew share 4 of William's land, 534 acres in Little River District on the west and south side of Little River near Newton Wood and Matthew Strickland [wife Mary Perry]; her share was 40 acres worth $160. When Nicholas Amos died, his estate papers in Wake Co. stated his widow was Nancy and that there was a family of children but did not list the names, sexes or ages of the children - see Wake Co. loose Estate Records, 1771-1952, 1962, 1968, C.R. 099.508 [Archives microfilm]; I did not have time today to look for a guardian's bond which might list Nancy's and Nicholas' children) By the way, Nancy's older brother was named Willis, which may be where Nancy and Kinuel's son Willis got his name.
Judy, This may be a clue and then again maybe not. I have a William Horton listed in Wake Co. NC. born 5 Oct 1812. I do not have a marriage for him but the time and location are close. This William was the son of Jesse Horton and Sarah Elizabeth Chamblee who was also from Wake Co. NC. If this interests you contact me and I will send everything I have on this branch. Jesse Horton is decended from Daniel Horton who came to the colonies from England about 1674. I am researching the Horton family: Randolph Horton, born 1858 in New York, moved to Iowa, Guthrie County. I'm not sure when, but he was there when his daughter Vina was born in the 1890s (my husband's grandmother). His wife was named Mary Ophelia Bennett and they had two other children, Harry and Frank, who remained in Iowa, unmarried, until they died. We have learned that our Randolph Horton's parents were William Henry Horton and Ann C. Pardy. We don't know anything about them. If this information "connects" with anyone, please let me know!
