Surnames: Horton, Smith Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BBk.2ACIB/2046 Message Board Post: I'm seeking information on Melia Horton, her ancestors and siblings. Melia may be short for Amelia or Permelia. She was married to James K. Polk Smith. Melia and James had a son, Lankford Pargo Smith, born 29 Oct 1881 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. In the 1880 Census for Lonoke Co. Arkansas, ther e is an entry for a Jas. K. P Smith, of the right age and place of birth, wife Mollie (close to Melia) and a two year old son whose name is illegible. According to the census, Mollie was born about 1835 in Tennessee, as were both her parents. Living in the same household with the Smiths are Elizabeth Honeycutt, her sons, age 23 and 20 and a daughter age 19. I would appreciate receiving any information.

    3. Hey Lance, thanks for the reply. Do keep me in mind in your research if you come across anything that connects to my line. I forgot to tell you this, I have a bunch of old tin types and of course don't know who most of them are. There are a couple with names, which are Robert Horton. On the back of one, it says something like from Fannie Horton in Texas, to her brother RR Horton in West Point Ga. (which of course is Troup Co.) I also have a bunch of family from Randolph Co. who were there when the Civil War broke out. On the other side of my family, the Carters and Moncus's. 2 brothers, E.H. Monkus and BJ Monkus were in the Columbus Light Artillery. I haven't figured out where my Carters served; I am working on that. At least 2 of the same family were killed. They were brothers, James, John Thomas, Francis, and Micajah Carter. Good luck, I'll keep a look out for your Hortons, since we are often looking in common places, thanks, Lorenda ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, March 15, 2003 7:47 PM Subject: Re: [HORTON] J. 2. Thanks for the reply Lorenda. Unfortunately it doesn't look as though our Horton's are related. Based on the 1900 census, Mary L. was living with her son, Thomas. Thomas' wife was Sarah (maiden name unknown). The census listed Mary as having only one child, thus my problem. J. Horton and Mary were living in Randolph Co., AL when the Civil War broke out. I'll make a note regarding your Horton's in case I come across anything on them. I have access to one of the larger geneology libraries in the country - Clayton Memorial Library, Houston, TX. Good luck with your research. Lance

    3. Hi, my name is Lorenda Todd and I am replying to the person who was looking for J. Horton and Mary Horton in Troup Co. Ga. I don't know if we have a connection, but let me pass this along. My GG Grandfather was Robert Horton, married to Fannie Ragsdale. He also served in the Civil War in the 10th Regt.Ga. Infantry Co. I. He enlisted in Fayette Co. Ga. I found him in the Fayette Co. 1850 US Census as being 8 yrs. old. He has a brother, John, 12 and a brother James, 10. Their parents are John and Sarah. I have them again in Fayette in 1860, but there they use initials. R. (Robert) is 17, but there is a JM, who I guess could John or James. However, in 1870, I have my gg grandfather as being in Troup Co. and that is where my g grandmother, Belle Monte Horton was born. I don't know why they went to Troup Co., if they had family there or what. They did come back to Campbell Co. Ga though (Campbell is close to Fayette) because Fannie died in Campbell Co. and in 1898 there was a reunion in Atlanta and Robert gave his home as Fayette. I know that is a lot of rambling on, but because of the Troup Co. connection, I thought I would just run it by you. Good Luck! Let me know if you find any connection; I have never found anybody else researching these guys! 1. [HORTON] John R. HORTON, Fishkill, Dutchess Co., NY 1797-1872
    2. I've just about given up hope on finding the parents of John R. Horton. Death certs not available until 1881. He's buried with his wife and children in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, so no church records to help. His wife is assumed to be Sarah ROE whose parents were William Roe and Millicent Miller. They were married in the Dutch church in Hopewell. Among other children, they had four sons: Richard, Charles, James and John. In old age he lived with his son, Charles. Anyone researching this family? Any help would be ever so gratefully received. Patty H., [email protected]

    1. Re: [HORTON] Re: William Calvin Horton in Wake County NC
    2. Bill, Guess what , It is all the same family. We are triple cousins. LOL I descend from both sides and have proven that they are the same family. The information about Barnabus is not proven but the connection of David Horton of Wake Co who died in 1784, who fathered Constant William, David jr. et al. has been proven to descend from Daniel of Nansemond County also. Amos Horton 11 who left Kershaw SC and settled in Wake Co was David Horton's of Wake county who died in 1784, first cousin. David Horton's father was Joseph who was Amos Horton 1's brother. It is documented in land transactions and wills. Hope you come to the "Tick Feed" in Green County Alabama this year on March 14. Many of us are staying at the Courtyard hotel in Tuscaloosa. Regards, Daniel Scarborough Hoyle Gallatin Tn.
