    1. [HORTON] Horton Gathering?
    2. Hi All: Does this Horton gathering mostly just pertain to those Horton's whose lines are in the South? I myself love the Carolinas but have no Horton relations that I know of that went that way. I'm still stuck in Southold area of New York with my Gilbert Horton b: about 1830. Can't yet connect him to Barnabus. All of my Hortons are from New England area. Do you believe that in the future there will be a Horton gathering in Long Island? Debbie Horton M. South Florida

    3. Debbie, This Horton Gathering is a once a year gathering of any Hortons in the U.S. and anywhere else. The majority of the members of the Horton Family Association are descended from those in the southeast. However, we have members that descend from Hortons from the north and midwest. Not all of us are connected, but we do enjoy sharing our finds with each other and also visiting historical sites, especially those pertaining to the Revolutionary War Era. Some of our members are from Ohio, Michigan, Texas, California, Illinois, Washington State, Florida, and Pennsylvania. Of course, all of these cannot come every year, so we always have a half different group and this adds to the interest of all Hortons. Even though some of us are not connected, we still enjoy sharing how we have solved problems, stories of some ancestors, etc. All of these Hortons from all over are such nice people and I enjoy being a part of the annual Gathering. 3. Hi Sue, Did your line settle in Grayson Co or Grayson, Kentucky? Grayson is a small mountain town where a lot of Hortons settled. One of the first was Travis b 1779 in Stafford co Va, s/o John m Rebecca Lester. This line would be cousins. My line comes from William who was a brother to Travis ' father John. My gggrandfather Rhodah b abt 1814 Va. settled in Elliott Co Ky along with a brother Daniel. ( Grayson is in Carter though just a few miles apart ) He had an uncle, also Rhodah, b 1794, who left Va and settled in Alabama. There must be a zillian of us and we are everywhere.!! If your family was in Grayson Co, then I know nothing of them, but am sure we are all related. What do you think ? Shirley

    3. Hi Garland, Thanks for the information on the Gathering. Probably won't be able to make it this year, but will try to plan for next year Would love to be there though. I love South Carolina. . My line is from Hugh Horton from Virginia and I live within 50 or so miles from where my gggrandfather finally settled in Kentucky before moving on to Missouri late in life. He had an uncle Rhodah, who left Va and went south and I have always wondered if I could find a connection with some of the Hortons on the list. My husbands family, the Brewers, settled in Kentucky around the early 1800's and although I believe they probably came from Maryland, I have not had a chance to go check it out and all of the older ones in the family, ( who am I trying to kid? I have become one of the older ones !!) have died . I do think there is some proof that they did come from there, however. I have not spent as much time on the Brewers as when I started , I began with Daddy's side of the family, the Hortons. I do hope the reunion will be a wonderful time for everyone. I would love to ome and meet lots of new cousins. If you see Perry, tell him I said Hello and thanks again for the reply. Hope we get a chance to meet sometime. Will let you know when I am able to connect the Brewers. Perhaps they will be some of yours, too. Shirley H Brewer

    2. Hi, Shirley: I saw your mail on the rootsweb, and Myra's answer, and hope you can make it to Camden, SC. Great little place with a lot of local history, and good research facilities. Many Hortons moved to that area from Virginia prior to the Revolutionary War, including my ancestors, Must ask about the Brewer name. William Horton, born about 1749 in VA, died about 1834 in SC, married an Elizabeth, and many researchers say she was a Brewer, but with no proof. Do you have any information to enlighten us? Take care, and God Bless! Garland Horton (Alabama)
