Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BBk.2ACIB/2354.1.1 Message Board Post: Thank you for your interest. We meet every year in July in a different town. Half of those attending are from the southeast and the other half are from many other states. Attendees descend from different Hortons and this makes for a good share and swap time. On July 21st Thursday night, we will meet together so that we can introduce ourselves and tell what ancestors we are researching. On Friday we do research in archives or libraries. On Saturday, we visit historical sites and cemeteries. Saturday night is our good bye supper and more sharing of what we have found during our research, etc. Each year it is a different mix of people, but some attend every year. This is our ninth year to do this and we learn a lot and have such a good time being together. Any other questions, please don't hesitate to email me. Myra Hester Warren/Birmingham

    2. Looking for information on grandfather's parents. Gus Eugene Horton is my grandfather. I have a request from him(in 1958) to St. Louis for proof of birth. He had fill out a form H-208 Special Certificate of Birth & Affidavits and also sent his marriage certificate to my grandmother, and a public school registration from Indianapolis. He requested this to get social security #. His birthday was 6/26/1904 St. Louis and he died in Indianapolis in 1975. It lists his parents as Thomas Burton Horton and Effie Sarber (Sarver) on his request, and death certificate. The paperwork seemed strange? Thomas died when my grandfather was a child and Effie remarried to Marcus Waterman. I have hit a roadblock with Thomas and have found conflicting information with regards to Effie. I recently received info that Effie was daughter of Thomas Smith Horton and Addie Sarver Horton, but my timeline wasn't matching up. Anyone have anything or any suggestions? Thanks!

    3. Dear Brenda, The last time I posted narratives from our Horton Gatherings to the Horton RootsWeb, I got a lot of very critical emails. I had always sent them to help others understand what is in South Carolina to see and learn. I descend from Amos Horton, Sr., Kershaw, SC. If you will give me your email address, I will be happy to email three narratives to you, 1998, 2000 and 2003 of my trips there. mhwarren@bellsouth.net Could you post some of those narratives to the board? As a native Californian who has never been to S. Carolina I would love to hear what you have to say! Brenda Rendon Osborne
