    1. [HORSLEY] HORSLEY Family Line
    2. Billie Erin Walsh
    3. It's been a while since I tried to find a fellow HORSLEY researcher so I thought maybe it would be worth a try. The information below is NOT proven, well.........not from Berry upwards at least. It is a "best guess at this time" from the information available. Here's the deal. Family tradition [ you know, I thought I heard someone say they overheard...............etc. ] that Berry's fathers name was Ralph. Pretty slim pickens to go on, but you never know. Anyway, the "Ralph" below is the only one I have found in Kentucky in the required age range. Several others but not in the correct range. Mostly to young to have been Berry's parent. In the 1850 Breckinridge County Census, District 2 we find "Rapael" [ 1870 census = Ralph ] and Delia [ 1870 census Delila ] HORSLEY and family. Living with him are Levi and Sarah HORSLEY. That's why I put them as his parents. Also living there was what looks like a Susan CLARKE age 23 and two more HORSLEY'S, Emily (16) and what looks like Henry (12). One particular stumbling block is the age of Delia. At 41 in 1850 she would have been somewhere around 15 when Berry was born. Not completely unheard of but........ Could there have been a first marriage? Good question. Could Susan CLARKE be a daughter that was married and lost her husband in some way? Her age would have made her just a bit younger than Berry meaning that if she was it looks more possible that Berry belongs with this family. Who were the last two HORSLEY children listed in the 1850 census? Usually the children of a head of household would all be listed together then anyone outside that core group listed afterwards. The fact that they are listed below Levi, Sarah, and Susan should indicate they are not children of Rapael and Delia. BUT, they don't use the CLARKE last name to be children of Susan CLARKE. OK, on to Berry himself. By the 1850 census he was married and living in Coles County Illinois. Also take note of the similarity in naming of the children of Berry and Rapael. [ Symian and Simeon ( a relatively unusual name ), William and William ] There was also a William HORSLEY closely associated with Berry in Illinois [ his brother? ]. Sometimes these things can be pointers. In order to connect him for real it would take a birth record or something in a will naming him a son. Census records are of little real use in confirming things before 1850. That's my dilemma. How to either prove or disprove. Proving the information would be best because I could then move on but even a disproval would be something. I would at least know where to go from here. If this is your family I would really love the hear from you. So far it has been a very lonely search with no one else looking into this line. 1.Levi Horsley, b. ca. 1766 Virginia sp.
